I'd not give the youngblood a bow unless he's got it modelled as their the cheapest guys and their BS is terrible.

He has, actually (it's the Middenheimer one). But I suppose I could paint a different model to use instead. It would have to be one with a sword, I think.

with your idea can swap off the bows to the heroes as you buy longbows meaning they can fire the bows until close enough and then unload some dueling pistol fun. I can't remember the skill for allowing both to be fired same turn but that and a bow would be nice combo. Fire bow and move. next turn unload both shots, turn after bow and move or charge the downed models and take them ooa.

That sounds like fun!

yeah, in retrospect buying a dire wolf and short bows for my dregs may have been all sorts of terrible.

i may disband and reform when wiss busts out his newfangled list.

Just the couple of games we played this past weekend went a long way in helping understand the game better.

I'm starting to not like bucklers.  In the half a dozen or more games I've played so far in our campaign I don't think I've made one parry save.

Part of the problem is that you have to parry the highest roll.  That makes it much harder to parry against multiple attacks.

adding a 1inch knockback forbucklers may be quite nice. line them up and chrge then buckler someone off a building.

I can't remember off hand but if you have a sword and buckler you reroll your attempt to parry i think. is my remembering correct or?

Yes, that's it. I think you should be able to attack with bucklers (but with a penalty to strength). It makes sense, it would make them more useable, and you can do it in warhammer roleplay (which was a major influence on Mordheim, if you look at some of the skills).

While on the subject of Mordheim, is it ever a good idea to start a new warband with a hired sword already in it? Or is the upkeep cost too much? I was thinking about adding the Kislev Ranger to my Ostermark Reiklanders, both for fluffiness and for the seeker ability.

Well, I'm not using that model.

Whoever sculpted that has some serious issues.

That's a terrible model.  It is, perhaps, the most outlandish rack ever sculpted onto a GW model.  GW just dug themselves in deeper with the paintjob on the official model... it's been painted so the nipples are peeking out of her top. :icon_rolleyes:

Ridiculous boobs aside, it's a terrible model.  It's clearly an elf, and *not* a human.  The pointy ears and elfy clothing give it away.  Why on earth somebody though it would fit in with the Kislev range is beyond me.

The problem is, it doesn't really fit in with any of the other elf ranges either.  Doesn't look like a high elf, doesn't look like a wood elf.  Not naked anough to be a Dark Elf.  That goofy sword doesn't fit in anywhere either. :eusa_sick:

It's bad enough that GW greenlit this godawful sculpt.  But putting it into the kislev range is just beyond absurd.  What next, Frodo as a Reiklander youngblood?

Who cares though? The rules are good. And there is absolutely no need to use the model.

I never said the rules weren't good (in fact, I've been completely unable to find the rules for the Kislev ranger!).

My point was that the model was *completely* wrong for what it is supposed to be.

I mean, since when have kislevites had pointy ears and upturned, elfy eyes?

The other thing that bothers me is that it's a female model.  I don't mind female models if they fit in thematically, or if they're supposed to be an unusualy character of some time, but as the sole representation of all kislev rangers it seems highly illogical that a female should be chosen.

I mean if there were 5 ranger models, and one was a woman, okay, that's reasonable.  Even a 50-50 split might be doable if the fluff supported.  Heck, I might even tolerate an exclusevely female ranger corps if somebody could come up with a convincing reason for it.  But kislev has always impressed me as a male oriented military.

Honestly, the ony place I can really see this mini fitting in is maybe as a Talisman miniature (the Elf, of course!) or perhaps in heroquest or something similar.

Of course, if you want a cheesecake model, the Elf... excuse me *Kislev* Ranger is not exactly the prettiest pig in the blanket.  It looks like a transvestite with those gorilla arms and hands (and the fake boob job just adds to the impression).  There are some amazing female sculpts out there, some of which are actually tasteful and modestly attired (if that's your thing... :icon_mrgreen:).

Also, by going with a nicer model, made by some other company, you can buy two or three much nicer models for the price of the hideous kislev ranger.  Seriously, $13.25 is highway robbery for a mini that ugly.

And to think, this abomination is hogging up retail space that could have gone toward one of those beatiful classic mordheim models that have now been discontinued. :x

Since a certain GW sculptor got the hots for a Russian girl but wasn't yet emotionally able to dump his long relationship with elf porn.

Sorry.

I heard that the model was intended to be an elf ranger.

in fact, I've been completely unable to find the rules for the Kislev ranger!

The rules were in fanatic magazine. It's like a cut-price elf ranger.
