Citadel Paint Range Expanding

I’m honestly pretty excited, I get good use out of my Shades and Contrast, especially in tandem.

I am not big on the contrasts, but I love the grey shade. I have been dying for that for years.

hope they don't cut any of the existing paints for this. I still haven't found the all replacement colours for when they did the first switch around 2010  :icon_mrgreen:.

Looking forward to the new washes, and like KTG, especially the gray.

But the contrasts has never really flipped my lid.

All the competition must have gotten them running scared. I hear Duncan Rhodes' paints as well as the newer Army Painter ones do pretty well.

Interesting they have this note at the bottom:

Quote
* The four gloss shades – Nuln Oil Gloss, Agrax Earthshade Gloss, Reikland Fleshshade Gloss, and Cryptek Armourshade Gloss – are leaving the range.

Cryptek Armourshade Gloss is included as one of the paints in the Warhammer Imperium 40,000 subscription I will be getting soon and it will be interesting to see what they use it for. I've never seen it in action.

Ouch, I wonder what the story is behind that. :icon_eek:

With all the emphasis I see these days on non-metallic metals and speed painting I reckon these just don't sell well. Let's be honest,  if you can achieve colour with a paint, and gloss finish with a... well... gloss technical layer, why would you need a colour with a gloss finish?

Just found out that the new set of 25 paints costs $195.  That's $7.80 per paint pot. :icon_eek:

The entire shade range has been reformulated to be more like contrast paints, so according to them it will be less of a tint, and more into the recesses. It will also be shrinking from 24ml to 18ml for the same price. Personally I am stocking up on the old shades. I have learned to use them as tints and I like them alot.

Hmmm ... I bought a bunch of paints back when they last changed everything up, mostly some from the "foundation" paints, but some others too including a few Badab Blacks and Devlin Mud.  Unfortunately most aren't very usable now.  Had slowly been moving over to some of the others in the new line, although my collection of paints has far expanded into multiple ranges.  Maybe I will pick up some of the current GW line before they are all moved to Contrast, the latter which don't really do it for me.
