Battlefleet Gothic
« on: August 03, 2014, 10:58:23 AM »
So, I've recently dug out my about 1000 points of Chaos Cruisers that I own, and I feel an itch to jack this fleet up to about 1500 and spice up the paint jobs a bit. Anyone else here still playing? Anyone going to the next Bash maybe fancy a game then?

Haven't played for 3 years I think, but I still have my 2500 point imperial fleet in a closet. No one else plays, though!

I wish they had kept making BFG.

There still seems to be a pretty active community though, just looking at forums. And I think there are even a couple of players in my area. Getting ships is a bit of a problem these days, but  there are suitable proxies out there if one can't get a hold of an original fleet.

I haven't played in a long time either, but I've always loved that game to bits, especially many of the ship designs. The Imperial fleet in particular looks glorious!

Stuttgart is a pretty big place, I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who's up for a game.

And yeah, it's a great game(when adjusted for imbalances(necrons, bomber spam)), and they're definitely the best looking space ship miniatures there are.

Well, were.  :icon_cry:

Bomber spam has been adressed in the 2010 update - the number of launch bays in your fleet is now effectively the "supply cap" (to use an RTS term) of attack craft you  can have on the table. So 10 launch bays means you can have 10 squadrons of attack craft in any combination on the table, which you can replenish, but never exceed. To compensate you don't run out of ordnance on doubles anymore when you reload.
You can still have as many torps running simultaneously as you can manage to crank out.

I've never played against 'Crons, but from what I see they ARE nasty!

I am still hunting for a kill kroza to use as a representation for my war bosses means of movement.  I wish we had gotten into it!

On another note the Star Wars ship game looks good.

Lol exactly!  A fun piece for fluff running over $50 everywhere I have found them isn't fun at all!

Funny story though, I found a handful of what I think are imperial cruisers of some sort in a bit bag I picked up around 2000.  They are about an inch long and have those imperial prows, but I am not even sure if they are real!

If you post a pic I can probably tell you what they are. If they're Imperial escorts I might even be interested. Currently toying with the idea of building a second, Imperial fleet so I have 2 available and can play with people who don't own their own fleet.

Nah, I don't think so.

There's a still active summary thread of suitable/interesting models here:

http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=5345.0

And I know what you mean with that Kill Kroozer. I was considering getting a small flotilla of Necron ships as a fluffy addon to my 40K Necron army, but canned that idea pretty quick after I found that Tomb Ships go for around 100+ Dollars on ebay.

I wanted to start a small Eldar Fleet, so that I have two fleets in case someone to try out the game. Didn't happen, too expensive and rare on ebay.

Yeah, I've been looking at Eldar too, but even the escorts go for pretty hefty amounts. Not even talking about something like Void Stalker battleships, which almost always fetch around 100 dollars. Come to think of it, that seems to be pretty much par for the course for Battleships these days. Cruisers are usually more affordable.

I have a decent sized imperial fleet, in segment pasficius colours.

Ill give you a game aldaris.
There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

...aaaand a squadron of Infidel Destroyers. Booya! 1500 points, done and dusted. Not bad for about 50 Euros total for that chunk o' points.

So that would make my fleet:

Chaos Warmaster - 100

Repulsive Class Grand Cruiser - 230
Dorsal lances range increase - 10
Additional shield generator -  15

Acheron Class heavy Cruiser - 190

Devastation Class Cruiser - 190
Devastation Class Cruiser - 190

Carnage Class Cruiser - 180
Carnage Class Cruiser - 180

Infidel Class Destroyer Squadron (3 ships) - 120

1405 points atm. I could easily up that to 1500 with a couple of rerolls / marks / CSM crews. A good day!
 :-D

Now I need names for those little darlings. I already have a couple on my mind, but suggestions are very welcome!

That's a small pack of escorts.  Then again, I love Torpedo boats and Tyranid Kraken, so I'm probably biased.

My local wargaming group did a BFG campaign this past winter/spring.  Had a lot of fun - Chaos, Marines, Tyranids, 'Crons, Imperials, and Orks all running around.  Some of us had minis lying around from ages ago (one guy had a whole Chaos fleet, in boxes, in his attic!), my Tyranids were pretty much scratch-built (green stuff and Bug bitz - easiest BFG fleet to get!), and some guys got stuff on Ebay.  I'd only run Imperials/Marines before...Tyranids are a very entertaining force to play as.  There's nothing quite like eating the enemy fleet.  :icon_cool:
Let them taste Reikland steel!

Yeah, it's a rather cutesy little escort squadron, but it's all I've got at the moment. :)

Now that you mention 'Nids... my regular painting buddy is a 'Nid player, so he should have plenty of bits available... hmmmm! Perhaps I should start working on persuading him to convert up a BFG fleet? Or I could offer to do it for him...

What I probably regret the most is not getting more amazing Dauntless cruisers. Two is not enough, I need at least 10. PM me if anyone wants to sell me some.

Ah, so that was you bidding on the painted ones on ebay UK?

If so, congrats! That was an awesome catch. I considered going for those myself, but decided against it. Luckily, it seems!
