Painted some Militia and a pair of sheep:
The three in the front row have been modified and/or kitbashed, following ideas I've seen here & elsewhere. The two in the back rank were painted by someone else. Tried to fix them, but the faces especially have such a heavy coat of paint that much is lost beyond recall. Maybe a head swap later.
Now, with an additional peasant and the sheep, my "Celestial Hurricanum" is finally finished. It has a cart, two men, and two animals, so is a perfect proxy.
I doubt I'll ever use this, so each figure can be removed from the chariot base and put to other labour.
Here's the Stirlandized back story:
Old Haßer’s Hay Cart
Arcane Battle AltarEnemies attacking the dispersed rural settlements of Stirland have often met with savage resistance from mere peasants and herdsmen. The reason for this is simple: the Stirland peasants have everything to lose if the enemy reaches their livestock and granaries. The soldiers of the poor country have largely been enlisted from these same peasants, so they share the anxiety.
However, enemies of Stirland have also been plagued by the moist, thunderous weather of the country. While they blame the unwelcoming, desolate land for this, there is actually more behind the phenomenon. Namely, the Stirland rural men pay great attention to the weather, and constantly sing prayers and recite traditional litanies to bless and safeguard their harvest from harm.
Not surprisingly, versions of the same litanies are used as curses, against successful neighbours, outlanders, Half-Men, and why not deadly enemies. While the blessings often don’t seem to work, the curses sometimes do. For this the good Sigmarite Sirlanders both thank and blame Old Haßer – a popular figure of peasants’ jokes and stories, who is in eternal opposition to everything new and alien.
The epitome of Stirland peasants hating whatever comes their way is a band of men travelling with the meagre bounty of their fields, the hay. Bored, drunk, poor, envious and stubborn, the peasants spit curses of Old Haßer and beg for trouble. They will insult whoever comes their way, and happily beat him to the ground, or loudly enjoy the sight of someone else being bathed in the sudden Stirland rains and winds. This sentiment is eagerly shared by any nearby Stirlanders, including the enlisted soldiers, and even the nobility.
RulesOld Haßer’s Hay Cart plays as Celestial Hurricanum. Old Haßer’s Hay Cart stands for the Celestial Hurricanum, Angry Peasants for Acolytes, and Angry Mean Aboriginal Stirland Sheep for Warhorses.
Inspiring Presence: The Hay Cart and all friendly units within 6” have a +1 bonus To Hit in close combat.
Curse of Stirland Weather: as
Storm of Shemtek, but with a -1 to the roll (i.e. more sogginess and no meteors).
