Playing a game tonight! £60 a side, small scuffle!
« on: August 20, 2015, 01:31:33 PM »
For a laugh, I am going to play a game of AoS later using the 'money paid' technique of army building, just to see if it works

£60 a side. Any suggestions on an army list?!

I might go for 10 Greatswords, 10 hand gunners and a cannon...

I am facing chaos, likely a few boxes of marauders will be involved.

I think GS might be a little over-priced. The Freecompany might be the way to go.

Certainly retail! I don't want it descending into folk bringing ebay receipts! It's just to see how balanced a game can actually be using price alone!

I had thought of Free Company, but are they not terrible? (not that how good they are actually matters to me, but just wondering why them?)

I was thinking the $$ price was low, and they aren't THAT terrible when there are a lot of 'em. They get bonuses to hit or something.

Empire knights are decent value and pretty handy in game. Free company aren't that bad in numbers

Ok I had a game and it was pretty even! Took some photos, will post up a review sometime over the weekend! Whilst I don't think using actual amount paid is generally a good idea, it did offer up a relatively even game, mostly due to models generally being similarly priced, I'd say.

Amusing experiment.

I'll say I've seen worse, and far more complicated attempts at balancing the game. It could be the new points.

Though honestly the direct reminder of how much we've been crazy enough to spend probably wouldn't be helpful...

Wow, now that's an idea! :::cheers::: :eusa_clap:

60 pounds is around 90 dollars, and to use that as a way to measure what the size of a W:AoS force might be is a hoot! :icon_lol:

It did feel slightly tacky, though it was amusing! I had to avoid letting the fiancé overhear the 'points value' in truest form

It was Fidelis von Sigmaringen that gave me the idea, actually, last week.

The thing is; there is every reason it would work.

I have been mocked for stating it, but it IS a true thing (and has been shared by others elsewhere); it was called "the Goblin rule". The worst thing in the game is (was, now) a Goblin. The idea was that the dollar price of models was weighted by how many Goblins there were "worth" in game. So, elite models were more expensive than basic troops - even though the amount of plastic and level of sculpting was the same.

Many people have said - and I would agree - GW has always been more concerned with finances than getting points values right. So, the price of a model might very well be a better reflection of its value in the game than a points value assigned to it.

And, with a lack of points in AoS, this might be one way of looking at balance.

I wouldn't insist on it, but it certainly sounds fun.

It could work, whether or not it does could depend on playtesting.  Alexis is putting it to the test! :::cheers:::

The monetary points system is not the big thing on this thread. The thing we really should care about is Alexis showing pics of his amazing army in action.

Really looking forward to the battle report! :::cheers:::

(Good work on trying the price points though, it's funny, and somewhat logical, that they work :-))

Someone should do a £650 game

Me: Here's my castle
Opponent: Here's my army

5 seconds after set up

*Shakes hand*

Well played see you next game.

Who won?

The castle of course, he pushed it over, by "accident", and it crushed the other fellow's army. :-P

Well, he could declare part of the castle to be a Dreadstone Blight (or similar) which, according to the Scenery Warscroll, consists of a single model. As he will have undoubtedly fewer models than his opponent, he can choose the Endure option on the Sudden Death Table ("Have at least one model which started the battle on the battlefield still in play at the end of the sixth battleround)"  and thus win the battle.

Haha, a far better response that mine.  Your wit, good sir, never fails to prove it's edge is exceedingly sharp. :eusa_clap:
