Early Renaissance Military Art ...
« on: December 03, 2019, 08:06:24 AM »
Check this out ...

From 1465 to 1500, and from a book printed in 1470, Burgundian mounted crossbows and lancers at the top, with spears, bills, and bowmen in picture on bottom ...

http://warfare.gq/15/Burgundian-Master_WA.htm

From between 1475 and 1500, handgunners and crossbowmen on foot, and on horse (including one at least one with a early handgun, and maybe one pointing such as well) ...

http://warfare.gq/15/Hausbuch_Wolfegg-Heerzug.htm

A battle wagon (1475 to 1500, maybe 1480?), not sure if the front is a cannon or a ram,  but the idea that the horses are in essence pushing it, and the picture even shows how the attachment was set up to do so ...

I do indeed see 1 mounted crossbow man. Should we give him that one at least Mids? 😸

Looks like there is some physical evidence for the war wagon. Now that gives me hope for a war altar

I see over a dozen mounted crossbowmen, maybe more, maybe even a couple of mounted hand gunners in there as well.

It is also interesting to see the armor and helmets are mixed, as is the overall composition of troop types.

This seems interesting because there are lots on foot compared to way less on horses, and both the crossbowmen and the hand gunners are traveling together in the same groups. Plus they are fairly well armored.

This is an amazing picture.  Although the Hussites are famous for their battle wagons, this shows other Germans could have been using them as well.  Maybe not on the scale as the Hussites, yet it is what it is.

Yes there are. I was looking at the pic with the wagons and looks like a mounted hand gunner as well. 😸

Definitely a mounted hand gunner there, and this was back when they were an iron tube on the end of a piece of wood.  That is so cool to see.

In fact, in the lower left corner of that same picture, there appears to be a rider pointing with something.  It could just be a bow or a wrapped bow, but it might also be a hand gun.  Not that it is shown being fired from the horse, but again, it is none the less interesting.
