Tournament Prep with pics VII.
« on: May 02, 2005, 08:57:53 PM »
I've announced to the world that I'll be attending Necronomicon on July 23rd & 24th in Orlando Florida. So it's time to get to work! I have sent in my registration with my new army list, and a quick tally shows I'll need the following troops;

3 mounted Senseschals
4 Priests of Ulric
16 Teutogen Guard
24 Spearmen
44 Swordsmen
24 Halberdiers
30 Archers
12 Hunting Hounds
3 mounted Hunt Masters
10 Knights
2 Cannons
6 Crewmen
40 Free Company

That's 218 figures! I can cover some of these troops with existing troops with some modifications...So my to-do list, with a 3 month deadline is as follows;

1.  Convert and paint 7 new characters.
2.  Convert and paint 24 Spearmen.
3.  Convert and paint 24 Halberdiers.
4.  Convert and paint 12 Hunting Hounds.
5.  Convert and paint 3 Hunt Masters.
6.  Convert and paint 16 Teutogen Guard.
7.  Type and print new army list with appropriate artwork.
8.  Make 14 custom sized movement trays.
9.  Make a new 2'x2' display base that shows the army leaving town and
     marching off to war.

The Spearmen are nearly assembled, and the Halberdiers are only 6 men short of being fully assembled. I'll use Gobbo wolves as Hunting Hounds, and some already converted Pistoliers as Hunt Masters. I've already built and painted two light guns from Dwarven cannon carriages and barrels, but I added much larger wheels to get them up to human height.

It's a lot of work to get done in the coming months, but I'll post pics as I finish modelling and painting the units. I'll also post some in progress shots of the terrain board etc.

Make ready for battle!

Whoa, there, be careful!  We don't want to get the ASPCA all up in our collective grill.  Best not post pics of the Hunting Hounds - or at least don't convert them as casualties like you usually do. ;)

TVI why the change to Ulric, to be more competitive in the comp?

I look forward to seeing how you create your new force and of course how you go in battle when the time comes.

Pictures along the way would be appreciated.

Ben.

(because of the Idiot I now possess, all painted, 65 Free Company and 80 Swordsmen, but I need more)

(of course if TVI goes Ulric I will now turn my sights in the the direction of the city of the White Wolf)

Wow, that's a tall order.  You'll do a great job as usual, and like the others I look forward to any pictures you can provide.  Since I don't have time to undertake such projects, I have to settle for living vicariously through those of you who do have that kind of time.  Good luck!

I think he's testing his theory that the Ulrician list is possibly more competitive.

To answer your question Ben : there is a monster topic not too long ago started by TVI entitled : Cult of Ulric. A better tourney army?

You'll find all your answers right there.

TVI should be getting a commission from GW.  He's probably responsible for the sale of more Empire infantry than anyone out there.

We will punish TVI at the Necro by having him arrested by the Fluff Bunny police!  I'm just curious how the army will do without detachments.

55 days to tournament and I have finished building the new troops. The 25 spearmen and the 25 halberdiers are now fully assembled, as are their movement trays and regimental bases. The 3 units of hounds are built, complete with hunt masters. Now it's time to get painting all these new troops. Forunately the color scheme is a simple green and white quartered pattern.

As soon as the troops are primed and base drybrushed...I'll post some pics.

The list is not fully finalized...I still have some points to spend. I have been playtesting as well so there are always more changes to make.

Current to do list;

1. Paint 24 Spearmen.
2. Paint 24 Halberdiers.
3. Paint 12 Hunting Hounds.
4. Paint 3 Hunt Masters.
5. Paint 5 Teutogen Guard.
6. Type and print new army list with appropriate artwork. (Still tweaking)
7. Make a new 2'x2' display base that shows the army leaving town and
marching off to war.

So have you finalized the army you are taking yet?  I'm still working on painting a new army for the tourney, but may fall back on my old army with another Hellblaster and some more nilla Knights.  That would be an easy 240 pts to paint.  I'll also drop the Rod of Power and just go with four dispel scrolls since I don't intend to cast any spells at all.

Good luck getting your army painted Tim, I completed assembling 35 models and primed them last night.  I'm going to hire someone to put together the last 60 I think.  I need to paint not assemble.

Here is one of the newly built and yet-to-be-painted units. The figs that are currently on black individual bases will be remounted onto the regimental bases after they are painted...this shows the general position of the troops.

Hope you like 'em.

Oh my... Halberdiers? That's certainly unusual, glad to see that after creating a bunch of new tactical dogma you're still pushing the boundaries.

The unit is very impressive as well, dynamic as always!

TVI;  Nice looking army.  I had it in my mind that you were taking a Cult of Ulric army to prove that its a viable tournie army.???  This is a Middenheim army, right.??  Not that there is anything wrong with that, and its certainly more viable against monsters in a tournie than CoU, unless you sacrifice the wolfkin for DOW cannons.

Good luck with the painting and the tournie.

Halberdiers, spearmen, and archers are all available as special troop choices in a Cult of Ulric army. I will be taking the CoU to the Necro. I've already sent-in my army list.
