Hello all,

The Old World has brought me back after not playing since 6th/7th edition.  Using the current miniatures I own I put together a 2000pt list and looking to get some input.  For context, I have no experience with playing this edition yet.

I am a big fan of infantry but it seems that the current edition does not favour an infantry centric play style.  My main concern is if I am utilizing my hero choices well.

For Heroes, I went with two level 4 Wizard Lords on Pegasi as based on research Wizard Lord on Pegasus is the way to go.  Figured I would take advantage of the low cost to get a Level 4 and have two of them.

Instead of having an Empire General on Imperial Griffon, I opted to have two Captains on basic Griffons.  One is BSB (War Banner) with Talisman of Protection and the other one is a barebones Captain.  I figured a General on Imperial Griffon will not be beating Heroes on Dragons so I decided that having two Capts on Griffons would work better at attacking flanks or weaker foes in general.  BSB can also fly two where it would be needed.  Great Cannons can focus on taking out the big nasties. Not sure if I should move the Talisman of Protection from the BSB and give it to the second Wizard Lord with the Ring of Ruin instead.

The Engineer would be with the Great Cannons.  Probably doesn't need the light armour.

For Core I went with a 24 block of Spearmen with shields.  Would be flanked by detachments of halberdiers (veterans) and handgunners.  Another unit of handgunners to stay with the Great Cannons.  Couple units of Archers for skirmishing.

For Special, two Great Cannons to focus on the big things and a unit of Demigryph Knights as another damage dealer.

This one has no magic. The idea is that the witch hunter on peggy hunts down opponent's wizards. I'm interested in how well the prayers would do. I think they could be okay.

I'm considering replacing some of teh halberdier detachments with handgunner detachments but that makes it less mobile.

I always thought it was a pity those guys didnt come with bases. They make quite a unique little unit

Finished up my project. This is something I had always wanted since first entering the hobby, but found it a bit underwhelming in the end. Almost entirely because I would have preferred original metal sculpts, as opposed to it being recast into resin. Whilst I could appreciate putting the wagon together was infinitely easier as a result, it just was not the same.

The crew, in particular, suffered from being in resin IMO. Not finecast bad, but not great either.

@commandant: Yeah, I found that rather nice about the Empire Greatswords already. :D

@Warlord: Thanks very much! Sure, I'll DM you. The Renaissance rules basically take 4th/5th edition, put a bit more focus on regiments over characters and add in elements of 6th edition for playability. And all of the army lists are overhauled, have earlier/later stuff included and reworked points values. Which for some silly reason was the thing that irked me the most about 5th edition. The DE list there had certain units which just were very obviously underpriced for what they do and others having too high points values. Sure, you can pick armies then which just make sense, but I prefer for a game to make me feel stupid for making mistakes on the table (as Warhammer VERY often did back in my Warhammerplaying days :D ) rather than making me feel stupid for having "not picked the right figure" (that was more 40k's thing, I feel).

Update:
Update: I went through my stock of plastic Empire wizards (4th edition/Talisman/WHQ singlepose ones) and fixed a wizard from that plastic box they released in 7th edition(?). Got him half-built from somebody second hand. Not sure it's even possible to place the latter one in a ranked-up regiment. :D

In less than an hour I'm off to that wargames show in Germany, talked to a lovely vendor from the area yesterday about 20mm square bases and 25x50mm cavalry bases, but he won't be able to attend due to illness and is out of those bases anyway. Oh well. Sadly I can't bring the Empire figures with me for the show, because I think they're too old and too unpretty for the audience there. Rather GW-centric, rather inclined to play the latest thing in general, not yer typical oldhammer bunch. Which is excellent. Always a lovely show, that. And it's a bit of a trip, which isn't bad either.

Love your style of mixing in the odd mini from here and there. Makes your units have a much more unique look. Its my main worry for GWs new way of doing things - the individuality starts to go away and things look more generic.
