Yeah those are much better. Love the shields. Wouldn't buy the hammerers at $20 though, let alone $50.

Nice job on the Longbeards.  Much better than the hammerers.

Still think the hammerers look good too. But those longbears take the cake all right.

I didn't say the hammerers were bad.  Just not great.  Felix at Avatars of War has said late February for his "Doomcrushers", so I'll probably get those instead.  I expect them to be significantly better models than the hammerers.

aow for hammerers, slayers and warriors.
gw for longbeards.

bazinga.
I don't care about the rules.

there are more pics on bugmans, which i cant figure out how to post here.

the hammerers look even worse ranked up, imo.

and the longbeards make the old clan dwarfs look shitenuggets!

hopefully they match nicely with aow...

huh, I thought aow did berserkers, normal dwarfs and missile dwarfs? I can't see any normal ones anymore. thought they were called bronzeshields?

Bronze and Iron shields

They have had problems meeting demand of late have they not? Taken down until they have sufficient stock perhaps?

suppose that'll only get worse with the new book.

I found some pics of the bronzeshields and I don't like them- squaretastic!

the iron shields are way better

Has anything worthwhile been mentioned about the new dwarf rules?

So I have the new weekly white dwarf in hand.  While I was reading the fluff about Belegar I read the following.

"Hammerers are the perfect accompaniment for a king, and with TWO attacks each they are veritable killing machines."

OH MAN!!!! Time to bring the pain!!!

Ok I just read this over at Bugman's 2 attacks sweet  :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Ouch. 7 wide yields 21 S6 attacks then - that's not exaclty shabby... especially if they stay at 12 pts. Couple that with T4 and a good armor save and it gets ridiculously good pretty fast.

Were points costs mentioned anywhere?

Hammerers had fallen badly behind compared with the beardtasticism of more recent elites. So two attacks would be nice!

All depends on pricing though…

Compare them to a swordmaster, who has 2 attacks but only str 4, worse T and maybe worse AS, but better movement and asf!

So if you looked only at that, maybe the same price as a swordmaster?

aren't swordmasters now subpar in the HE list?

I’m gonna be hugely excited if they have anti-steadfast rules, so you can still run units of 20-25 and be effective.

If thats true then how does that leave our greatswords looking? cos i'm halfway through painting a nice unit of 30 old school metal ones, and would love to actually be able to use them. (bearing in mind i will prob play my next game against new darkelves in a couple of months time and havent played since before the high elf book came out)

looks to me hammerers should be 12 or at a push 13 then.

up "overpriced" shit creek without a paddle, along with flaggies, handgunners, mortars etc etc- the same place they've been since our shitty ass book with half the options not even worth taking was released :)

What Finlay means, once you wipe away the froth:

They're playable, but not very good (overcosted being their main issue). And they don't compare well to their counterparts in other books.

What I meant really is that hammerers have no effect on GS, they've always been over priced and over matched compared internally and externally. We all knew this basically straight away, so a book near the end of 8th has no effect on them at all!

They're playable if you don't care at all about winning, which to be fair is a perfectly admirable and good state to be in :)

Fandir takes them a lot, and he also wins a lot with them, and in tournaments too. So they work if you use them correctly. They're still nowhere near points efficient though, so you're playing at a handicap if you take 'em. If that's all right, go for them!

He was making them all in resin, he has changed to a plastic.  Not injection molded like GW, but less brittle than resin.  He has to change how the models are assembled for the different casting process.

I have some of the plastic dwarfs (crossbows), and the quality is just as good as my resin Warriors of Apoc [Chaos].

Yes, he does.

And yet, he takes them.

And wins.

I rest my case.

mm, didn't say you couldn't win if you took them, just implied it made it harder!

so the "don’t care about winning" was wrong, as Fandir does.

Although actually, if Fandir only cared about winning, he wouldn’t run them.

I do genuinely think they are one of the worst offenders for wrong points cost out of all the 8th books.
