Title: Characters in War Machine Units?
Post by: Swan-of-War on February 07, 2012, 10:43:50 PM
So, the main rulebook clearly states that characters are not allowed to join warmachines (see Characters section, not Warmachines as referrenced in the back). Yet, in the FAQ, the address a question about characters/champions in a warmachine unit being able to issue challenges.

Is there some kind of warmachine-hybrid entry or something in one of the other army books that allows characters to join or is GW just being off?

I'm pretty sure some armies warmachines have upgrades that give them charactes of sorts. I'm not familiar with those that do though.

Perhaps the engineer for dwarves?

Yes, you can upgrade most dwarf war machines with a regualr engineer (not the Master Engineer, which is a Hero), and you can even kit him out with a brace of pistols or a handgun. This would effectively also give the war machine four wounds instead of three.

I'm not sure of any other armies that allow something like this. Brothers?

Bretonnian Trebs let you upgrade 1 guy to a .....champ. Basically for 10pts you get +1 BS for a stone thrower...

What page does it say characters can't join warmachines cause I've been playing it as if they could.

All the good that +1 BS gives a Stone Thrower!

goblin rock lobba's and maybe the doom diver can add an Orc bully for an extra wound and an extra attack (with the Choppa special rule!)

Thanks for the answers guys!

@Peacemaker.  Take a look at pg 97 of the little rulebook, under What Unit Can I Join?

I had the crazy idea of a BSB joining a cannon unit with his Banner of Eternal Flame.
Flaming cannon shot anyone?  Take that Hell Pit Abomination!
But alas, it looks like a match that will never be so.  Curse you clearly-written rules!

The brettonnian treb upgrade is for the +1 Ld you get, nothing else.

Also for indirect fire (which never happens).

Flaming Sword of Rhuin does it better. It lets you auto wound anything Toughness 8 or lower!

The dark elves Cauldron of blood counts as a warmachine and comes with a hero( hag)
I think the dwarven anvil count as a wm as well and is only available to a (rune)lord.
