« on: March 23, 2007, 01:27:12 AM »
Heya all,

Here are some pictures of my newly finished Arch Lector on War Altar.  He will be the general of my new army that will be his guard force.

Feedback welcome

Where are the dancing girls?...... :engel:

It's an awsome work.   Sigmar will surely bless you.  Do you have a list of the various bits used or is there a lot of greenstuff artistry?
Sigmar on a sling, the stuff some people come up with. . . .

Its less of a scratch build and more of a kitbash, but I like the colors so Ill let it slide  8-). You also have it done so thats worth some points right away (mines not even on paper yet). I tend to agree that the platform is a bit sparse and flat. Over all it looks great though!

Cool, my idea is very similar except im using the base of the war wagon and having a sister of battle matriarch whipping 20 free company (gotta repent some way )

The entire base/dias was built out of balsa.
The axles, hands, wheels, back of altar holding the chains are off the war altar.
Throne, pennants, front of altar and AL legs are 40k throne (witch hunters)
Skull side rails are from the Black coach
Gryphons are from the Empire general set.
Book is from Dwarf Grudge bearer lord
Chains are from art store.
Center two flaggellents are from the brentonian grail reliquy (spelling)
Out two are Empire flaggys.

I plan to add at least a sheild leaning against the left side of the throne.

I am not sure what else I would add to "clutter" it up more.  Any suggestions?

I thought about using more Flagellants to pull it, but wanted the size to stay near to a chariot base.  As it is its 10mm wider and longer.

how about a shield bearer? a little church-boy with the duty to hold up the shield for the theogonist to snatch up and beat up some foul beastmen with - not the boy, the shield.

my idea behind a war altar was similar, but the platform was going to be covered with a sheet of cloth, so that you can see the texture of folds and creases... because atleast that would fill some of the gap up. But that seems like a lot of work as an improvement for this piece (you'll have to take off so much of the current detail) so i think the only thing you can do is add one or two ornate pieces on the platform.

maybe braziers on the corners of the raised platform?

Wow! I really like this war altar. It is exactly how I would want mine to look (when I finally get around to making it  :icon_wink:) The only criticism I have is that I really don't like the arch-lector himself. The armor pads look a bit odd on his legs and the weapon just looks too plain for such an important empire official.

Great work!

I personally don't think it's a case of the Altar being particularly bare, although a few extra items of clutter wouldn't go amiss.

A shield to represent the shield of the gorgon would be nice, perhaps some large church altar style candlesticks and the odd heretic's skull wouldn'y look out of place.

But - it's more a case of the large flat areas of the platform having no depth, and an awful lot of that burgundy colour.
If you could bear it I would be tempted to either score in, or paint some wood grain onto the surface, even if you were still keeping the single colour. It would break up the otherwise large blocks of flat colour and add some depth to what is a very nice piece of work.

Good ideas all around.  My Army is going to be primarily red.  With my knights being Knights of the Flaming Heart (personal body guards of the Arch lectors).  I had some custom decals made for the shieilds so I wanted the primary color to br prominent.  I had thought about making the platorm wood grained. I may go back and try to do some of that.  I like the idea of a shield bearor.  Maybe I can find a 40k one to use.

That is a nice piece of work you got there. But indeed a shieldbearer or  knight on it would make it better I think.

To break the colour, all i think you should do is change the colour of the stepped section upon which your throne sits.  Perhaps black?
