Before the AL/hb/demi lovers start posting, I'd like to say that both your lists look like they will be fun to play. One is shooting and magic oriented and the other is more combat oriented. So it is up to your personal preference. My only advice would be to use crossbows instead of handgunners, as they have 30" range instead og 24". Also, magic can be fickle, so your lvl can either be the gamewinner, or blow up in your face.

If you decide on the first list, I'd see if i could give your warrior priest some more protection, maybe a charmed shield or opal amulet. Other than that, good luck!:)

I like the first list, but I don't know if you need a full command on 7 knights.  The second doesn't have any magic, so you're ignoring a whole phase of the game.  When you're beginning to play (assuming you've got a few games under your belt), I think it's important to play with the whole set of rules.

Suggest Lore of Light because it's a fairly easy lore to use.  Realistically, any lore isn't too bad.  Sometimes I just roll a d8 and let luck decide.

You might want to consider dropping the 5 handgunners and upgrading the knights to inner circle.  You could probably also afford a dispel scroll for your level 2.

Thanks.  This will actually be my 1st game unless I can find someone to play before then.

Well, first of all, I'd say that have an unit of 30 state troops, or don't bother, since they are sucky. They won't stay for long, with their stats, so the only way you can get something out of them is to take them in a big horde. I'm sure you could find points for those extra ten swordsmen. And, the cavalry has the same problem as well. 7 knights ain't gonna do anything... They'll die when they charge something, and since the 8th edition heavily favors infantry, you should at least have a dozen or don't bother!  :::cheers:::
The Empire does not take you seriously until you've sacked Nuln
