Empire Crusader Army
« on: August 19, 2006, 10:16:51 PM »
I've recently re-discovered my copy of The Citadel Journel Issue 43, and this has sparked off (again) the thought of putting together an Empire crusader Army, as there is an army list for this in that issue.

Has anyone tried this army list? Any thoughts on viability, or any do'es or don'ts would be appreciated.

I was thinking of using the rules for the Knights of the Twin-Tailed Orb, but the +10pts per fig seems a bit excessive for one extra hit in the first round of combat.

Any thoughts on the Knightly Orders rules generally? Good/bad/expensive?

I'm not sure if making an army using a variant list in the back of the current Empire Army book is a good idea.  If you haven't heard, Warhammer Fantasy will be introducing version 7 of the rules in about 19 days, and the new Empire book is due out approximately by the end of the year.

I'd honestly hold off on a themed army until the new Army Book hits the shelves.

why?

you can still play 6th when 7th edition is out.

also it is fun for a collector to have such a themed army.
8th edition empire (2/1/0)

Everyone knows that the only time Chuck Norris ever cried was when he meet Luthor and realized he was the second most badass man in the world.  :engel:

I have that issue of Citadel Journal as well,  and tried out the list against my regular foe who plays Druchii . Not bad if you have an all cav list, but a bit limited with the characteristics you pay extra points far . Though those traits would be better in the new Empire book then the ones published in WD some time ago to add some 'flavour' to your Knightly Orders .

Thanks for the feed back.

I thought that the traits were better than the WD ones too, but as you say, they did seem a bit expensive for what you get. The Knights of the Twin Tailed Orb being one of the most cost effective traits going.

The fact that the new 7th is coming out soon doesn't affect the choice for the army as regardless of the changes in the Army book, the fluff and therefore the theme and figures in the army will be the same.

I can see your point Phydox if this was for 'winning' games, but it's not, it's because I like the idea for conversions etc. It would be nice if it was though. If the army becomes illegal, with the new rules, then so be it. as erik maas says, I can still use 6th edition rules, as a couple of the players in the club I go to are not planning on getting the new rules. So hopefully not a problem.
