Which is straight up mental and my opponent took this list

https://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=56594.0

My opponent wanted a list that was very different form mine and I suggested this one.   I don't think either of us played very well.

We had 5 pieces of terrain.

The battle was fun and ended in a draw.

My army's deployment basically covered the board.   It made it difficult for him to know what to do.   He concentrated on punching through the greatswords in the middle of my line but mistakes were made.
The steam tank, maybe because we are not good a using steam tanks, never made it into combat.   He pushed up all his knights to line up a combo charge with the griffon wizard and the two demigriff blocks on the greatswords while he pushed up the outriders and knights on both flanks.

My flying level three killed a unit of outriders with Windblast and the flying captain was very lucky with the ruby ring and killed 3 of one of the units of knights.   (he rolled 11 attacks).  That unit then panicked in front of the other unit.

the Greatswords lost combat but in my next turn I got word of pain off on the demi grif and when they were charging after the greatsword block the unit of 2 charged into one of the infantry detachments.   They promptly murdered it but it broke up the combo charge on my greatswords.

The GrandMaster killed my general in a duel but, helped by word of pain the greatswords killed the griffon wizard.

Take aways.

- it might be worth dropping one of the infantry blocks for some horses.   It was really hard to deploy all that infantry.   However the detachments sort of supported each other as well.   Basically my battle line was a sort of checker board.   I needed to deploy some of the detachments 6 wide instead of 8 wide because of room.
- The three cannons did very little because of lines of fire problems.   However they did cause him to hide his griffon mage (not that stopped the combo charge)
-I think we both played too aggressively.
- I might have wanted to keep the elemental wizard closer to the centre.   Wind blast is a good spell.   Also so is plague of rust with all this armour running around.

I need more games though.   It played really slowly as I needed to look up every rule.

I think this infantry concept can work from this game.   But it does need more work.

Good you got a game in.
I think the new base sizes are going to take some getting used to.
I don't have any 30x60 bases for cavalry, so I'm not entirely sure what to do about that yet.

Cardboard squares will do for bases in a pinch - just glue (only a spot) your current bases on top of the cardboard until you can buy new bases.

I'm surprised the Steam Tank didn't make it into combat. It really is a beast that you have to run right up the middle.

Having some mobility with a unit of knights and outriders seems like a good idea.

Do you think having screening archers would have changed anything re: redirecting and first charge?

I think we played poorly to be honest.   We didn't really understand the steam tank rules so it did charge forward but the demi's were faster in the middle.

Do you think having screening archers would have changed anything re: redirecting and first charge?

Normally I have an archer screen but I didn't take it in this list.   It would have been helpful.

Good to learn how this mixed arms list worked out, thanks for the commentary!

Were you playing on a 4'x6' area?

Yes. It got super crammed super quickly during deployment. If I had a hill to set up my cannons I would have been super happy
