While I think the premise of a flying chariot is pretty stupid and lame, I gotta admit I really like the look of it.

I to must admit that I like the flying Chariots. I could get my 9 Dragon princes + customized hero together and have a nice elite cav unit.

Intrigued by Maiden Guard models.

Stupid mass windswept hair. No alternative heads.

No longer bothered.

It's like they're fighting infront of a giant fan. Which would make sense if every single other person in the army had the same problem but they don't.

What's worse is that by fighting in giant conical helms they are going to have a strong wind resistance - obviously a problem for Elves.

I'm thinking there is a localized Heaven's spell on the unit.

Cue retarded High Elven Air Force lists. The next evolutionary step in monsterhammer.

Maiden guard could have been good, but they gave them tranny wigs and ice bows.

At least the regular Shadow Warriors are great.

fire bows mate, fire bows. and they're not maidenguard. they're sisters of averlorn.

gives the unit magical, flaming arrows. all the better to hit hexwraiths with.
specifically the rule is called wychfire, and they are a new rare unit

I can just imagine it now, Dragons, Sky Chariots, Phoenixes and Griffons filling the sky and diving down for the attack, Ride of the Valkyries blaring as they swoop down!  :::cheers:::

Oh yeah, with two units of Archers to fill the Core requirements.... :eusa_wall:

Sadly not. No flying core. HE are stuck with the same lame style of core as the rest. Archers, spearelves, Silver helms and Ellyrian reavers.

I am really interested in the Sisters of Avelorn.

$50 for 10 plastic pieces..... again. I think I'm done. This is getting quite ridiculous.

Nasty price on those.

The sky chariot however makes a sweet BSB on foot figure from the same kit, and the Phoenix makes a great Caradyan or generic hero. I actually think this is a great release, crapping all over DoC and WoC. Worst model is the Queen, more drag than elf, but the rest are actually pretty decent. Love the plastic Loremaster, reckon I might get that and head swap a female head to be the general for my wife's display HE force we're going to paint together.

At the risk of getting flamed . . . .

Is $5 for a high-quality model (regardless of what it is made of) really all that i) surprising or ii) ridiculous?

That has been the price range for some time now, and that is a comparable price for models from other companies. Certainly, things like the Perrys and Wargames Factory are much cheaper - but lots of other companies are just as expensive.

Also, I honestly don't get the "plastic should be cheap" distinction. Plastic itself is materially cheaper than metal (I am not sure by how much) but the production costs for plastic are higher, and the options for plastic are far, far greater.

Sure - we'd all love $2 models (or 50c models) but we know that isn't going to happen!

EDIT : And, that is a pretty sweet kit in terms of the bits and options - looks like 20 torsos and heads there. With some work, you could grab a box of core infantry and get 10 Maiden Guard and 10 Shadow Warriors without difficulty with some kitbashing. Then, you are looking at $85 for 26 models - 10 Maidens, 10 Shadows, 6 Core. $3.27 each.

Ha, I guessed right that 10 infantry would now cost £30!

But wrong on the giant birds: I estimated £40 for those.

Bird boat is actually really nice. Although I again can't imagine how you're supposed to transport it anywhere without breaking it.

The price speaks for itself, so I don't have much to say about it.  Elites have been $50 in Canadia for a while now.  This kit costs $60CAD.  I would say its not necessarily the price per model but more the number of models required for a game.  Privateer Press models are a similar cost, but you only need like 30 models total to play Warmachine or Hordes.  (My gaming group got me to try WM, so I am using it as a good comparison).

Also, plastic has always been touted since its inception as better than metal for 2 reasons: 1) its cheaper and 2) its easier to convert.

My main question is this ogre host that is up for preorder

They will make a special limited edition figure case for it, a lot like the original case but with special limited edition cut foam and special limited edition embossed Bird Boat writing on the front, of course as it's so special they will give it a special price of only £50.

Hopefully no one who works for GW reads this and gets any ideas

Why not?

My problem is GW is trying to sell me models for prices they are not worth. SO I will not buy. Nothing wrong with that.

95 quid for twenty sword masters plus a wizard!

Holy shit.

And those sculpts are as old as ass, althiugh I do like them.

I sold all mine for a decent amount, but certainly not a fiver a model!

For the cost of one unit I can buy four triple a PC games.
I don't care about the rules.
