Models for Necromunda?
« on: November 04, 2009, 08:11:35 AM »
I am trying to find a good source of parts to build around 10-15 necromunda/40k models armed with a selection of weapons that I can use for necromunda.  My total budget ideally is about £25-30

I have been looking around, sourcing a weapons sprue from necromunda or 2nd edition 40k is either expensive or impossible, I am not sure which.

So far I am leaning towards a box of catachans and a catachan command box.  Thats about £25 or £27 I think [cant double check GW site is blocked] or less if I source them from elsewhere.

Somewhere I need to source bits for a heavy stubber as well, although I am going to investigate my bits boxes as I may have something I can use.

I could use cadians, or if I am rich, some forge world resins.

Any ideas?  The gang I would like to make are Delaques, but they only have 4 official models  these days so I figured I would scratch build.

Whoa! Talk about choosing a difficult gang to kit bash.

Goliaths, Van Saar, Redemptionists and Scavvies are probably the easiest.

I would guess potentially using the new archers (for the bodies) and some Imperial Guard bits. The bald heads are difficult though - especially because they wear goggles.

Good luck Crimsonsphinx!

Isn't Delaque the gang with the coats? You could use the Free Company upper body, perhaps...

Catachans make perfect Orlocks (my brother just did exactly that), but I can't see them being easy to make into Delaques...

He mentioned forgeworld. Some Deathcorps? Those sure are the nicest coated bodies around. You'd still need heads though.

Im not too bothered about them looking too closely like the origionals as I don't have any at the moment.  I was thinking guardsmen with the masks and long coats, but as resins they are very expensive.  Heads are no problem, I have so many human heads in bags at home, I am sure I could find enough bald ones!  But gas masks are good for respirators so thats also useful.

Basically I am just looking for appropriate models that I can get cheaply.  Free company are an obvious choice, and I have about 60 or 70 of them already, so I could possibly convert some of the ones I own, but I really need the lasguns etc for my gang, as I litterally have no spare 40k weapons that I can use, apart from a shed load of boltguns, bolt pistols and chainswords.

Doesn't help I play as chaos and eldar in 40k.

My other choice was to use eldar guardians as a base for a House Van Sar gang, but again I would need a way to get hold of some weapons.

Perhaps you could convert empire handguns into lasguns? Stock and grip are quite rounded already and could easily pass for something more sophisticated. Hm... have to think about that.

I am sure that any IG player has lasgun bitz en masse, just try to find one in your region.

Goggles are easy enough to sculpt, I do it all the time on enginners.

Which, I suspect, is why they are so easy for you.

Im going to check my bitz box tonight, I am hopeful I can find some old 2nd edition laspistols, autopistols, some power weapons etc.

I may need to create a heavy stubber :)

I have plenty of melee weapons from my warhammer armies and a few from 40k that I could probably use.

The only guard player is also making his own gang, from cadians, probably to use as enforcers and he claims he has no spare lasguns for sale.

I can't deny it. They won't last long, but they'll mow down your enemy on the first turn you use them   .

Course, you could take bolt pistols and then give them an undefined bulge in their trousers with green stuff which you could note down as their laspistol.  8-)

I want lasguns for my gangers, a 2+ ammo roll, even I should make one in 3 or 4 of them  :-D

I have just been looking in my chaos marines boxes and found a plasmagun, so thats one special weapon, just need to see what else I can find!

On the delaque weapons list, boltguns, bolt pistols and chainswords are all Gang leader only!

There's a delaque weapon list? I thought all the gangs could take the same stuff...

Which rulebook are you using?

Maybe this is one of those things I was trying to find out the other day about changing between the original and the new book but no-one knew....

Hiya Crim

I may be able to help here.

I have just got out my old Classic 'Absolute-Must-Have-Book' 1999 Annual with all the models pictured and I did buy a lot of Necromunda bits for my IG vets many years ago - mainly backpacks but I do have some old weapons.

Looking at the Delaques there was:

Leader with Boltgun
Leader with Boltgun and power Axe.

Heavies -
1. Heavy Stubber ( reminds me most of an Orks weapon and I can find you something there)
2. Flamer
3 Lascannon
(All had some form of Backpack)

Gangers: 4 models with lasguns, 2 shotguns, & 2 Autoguns

Juves:
4 Models - 2 with a stub gun and a knife, 1 with Autopistol and a knife, and one with a brace of stub guns

As has already been pointed out they all have 'trenchcoats' (almost Valhallan, but unbuttoned) and goggles.
Now I did make some extra Valhallan Radio Operators with Catachan legs and militia coat torsos that turned out ok.

Give me an idea of weapons you would need and I'll see what i can bring to the party, maybe some of the others can find anything else.

I think I have lasguns, shotguns, laspistols, maybe autopistols.
The important bit of the stubber is the long barrell with holes in it, and I am sure that can come from the Orks - any hand attached to a weapon will be wrong scale I guess.
I have several Catachan flamers too.

PS. Not sure if the 1999 catalogue is on the web anywhere - Soloegends stops before then. I could possibly scan the pages and email them over if you need to see the drawings of the old models?

Having had a total search of all my bits last night I have found the following bits, ignoring anything with chaos symbols, so most of these are from my 2nd edition eldar and 2nd edition blood angels.

Around 100 boltguns.  So plenty of them, shame I can only use 1 in my entire gang unless I get a rare one.

About 10 boltpistols without arms, around 20 with arms.

Much more than 200 knifes/swords/clubs etc.

About 30 chainswords with arms attached.  Again I can only use one so I probably don't need all these.

Two 2nd edition eldar lasguns.  Might be the standard weapons sprue lasguns from that era, im not sure.

3 2nd edition autopistols.

1 2nd edition laspistol.

1 plasma gun, a metal one spare from my recent 5th ed chaos army [although it is an imperial one]

3 rat ogre arms with the cannon.  Can be used as shotguns with a bit of cutting down and converting.  I also have  empire militia guns.

2 reaper autocannons, one metal, one plastic.  Plastic one will be cut down and converted to heavy stubber.

3 powerfist, 2 left arms and one right.

2 power axes.

2 power swords.

3 flamers and 1 heavy flamer.

So all in all, I have quite a collection of spares.  On the GW specialist games site there are only 4 delaque models.  Really I just need to get my hands on some guardsmen, as I can convert lasguns into autoguns with bolter clips  :-D

Thanks for the offer Midaski, but I think I will probably use Steel legion who already have trench coats or maybe Catachans if I am feeling poor!  I will probably use some of the great empire free company heads too.

With the parts I have, I can do a leader, heavy, three or four juves and probably two-three gangers.  With a box of imperial guard to supply bodies and las/autoguns I should hopefully be set!

Don't forget the pictures when you're done!

But don't paint them pink this time.
