I absolutely cannot fathom how DA could be one of the best you ever played.

I don't require you to. I gave my reasons, you don't have to agree.

Hell, Ice Wind Dale is a better game in my mind.

Now you're trolling.
How was Icewind Dale better?

Much cleaner system, better turn based/live action system.  Ability to chreate all of your own characters.

I didn't even find DA to be as good as Baldurs Gate II, which it was essentially copying.  I felt a stronger connection to those characters than any of the canned products in DA.

To me DA didn't offer enough content to over come its terrible graphics, predictable storyline, and forced relationships.

And the sex scenes were so laughably bad that they should have just removed them.  I was more convinced that the two mummies fighting in Stone Prophet were in love than when Morrigan awkwardly bumped into my creepy fingered elf.  Both of them staring off into space with their dead eyes...

Yes, the sex scenes were bad. And about 10 seconds long in total.

But I'll let you rag on alone, since you seem unwilling to let it go.

Look, this isn't some haters society here.  I gave it a 6 and can understand a 7.  What I am stunned by is the fact that you think it one of the best RPG games you ever played.  I respect your opinion immensely, which is why I gsve the game another chance.  But best ever?  Seriously?  I just can't see it.

Of course it isnt, BG2 is one of, if not the, best RPG of all time. Certainly within the fantasy genre

Right, but how can DA, which essentially takes the BGII format and just redoes it, be considered among the best games ever in the genre?

Oddly I think the answer may be in the post you seem confused by.

That's all opinion anyway. To me DA was one of the best RPGs I ever played, still is. It just clicked.

First part bolded, yes, it is opinion. Second part italicised, he said FOR HIM.

I don't think it can. It's a competent modern example of the genre with above average combat, decent skill trees and a good difficulty level.

If you want characters, JRPGs generally do characters better anyway. I never liked the main character basically having no story which seems to be a staple of the genre in the west. Notable exception I'd love to try and heard awesome things about is Planescape: Torment.

True, but as someone who plays a lot of RPG's, Aldaris's opinion is important and also predictive of the greater community.  I have heard others say the same thing, but in almost every case it was because they were younger and had much less experience with RPG's than veteran players.  They were the PS3/Xbox generation who rarely get an RPG of real worth.

Get over it, Aldaris likes it and considers it that good, then good for him.

You don't like it, good for you.

Christ, you two just shut the fuck up. It's tiring as hell. I'd much rather watch commandant faceplant in yet another bizarro thread on rights for pears to bear arms.

Dwhitey = voice of reason, yet again!

Anyway, the best RPG is clearly planescape torment.

Do we want this thread to be as repetitive as one of those awful 'issue' threads though?

Not really, that’s why I bought you DA!
fallout and fallout new vegas, mass effect 1 (better than 2) and 2 are good. Bioshock is rpg-ish. But all futuristic
ME1 is better than 2? I call BS.  ME2 has way better pacing.  ME1 has elements of a traditional RPG but ME2 was a far more entertaining installment of the 2.

If you want characters, JRPGs generally do characters better anyway.
I havnt played very many JRPGs, most seem bland or very emo... come to think of it I dont think I have ever played one, unless you count 2 hours of chrono trigger 2 weeks ago.

on the subject of sex scenes, DA, ME1 and ME2 have some petty terrible ones.

Bioware peaked with Knights of the Old Republic.  Everything since has been of lesser quality. In house, even they are admitting that now.

BG1 belongs above BG2.

You've included the same game three times on your list - Morrowind, Skyrim and Oblivion - you might want to correct that.  They're good games, but once you've played one you've played them all.

No KOTOR?  Final Fantasy 6?  Secret of Mana?  Chrono Trigger?!?!?

I want, no, NEED to understand Aldaris's point.
He’s already said what he liked about it a million times. You seem to place a lot of importance on the graphics, maybe he doesn’t (I certainly don’t). The combat is certainly a lot more interesting than skyrims.

I’ve never played planescape torment! Will have to get it. Also, the new updated version of BG1 is on steam now as well.
ME1 was better than ME2 in every way imo, apart from the FUCKING MAKO bits.
Kotor gives me a boner. So good.

KOTR would be in my top 15.

Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim are not the same game.  They are very different from each other.  Morrowind had the best main quest of the three.  Calling them the same would be like saying the Bioware games are the same game.  They look different but all essentially play the same.

I recognize BG1 innovated, but BGII did a better job polishing the system and making the characters even stronger.

No FInal Fantasy game deserves consideration.  Maybe FFIII on the SNES.

Finley:  If graphics aren't important, then BGII smoothers DA.  And I don't think the combat system was more interesting.  Was there more to do because you managed multiple characters?  Yes.  They are different systems.  I don't see either as a strength or weakness.

You should. It's better than baldur's gate 2.

Morrowind had the best main quest of the three.

This is true. Also the most interesting setting.

Plus you can fly and teleport in that one!
