wiggle wiggle wiggle.
I lke it! chaos dread?
-
A bit bigger. Sort of like a beefed up chaos dread stuffed full of daemons.

That thing is awesome! I just got a Contemptor Dreadnought myself. Great model and surprisingly heavy. That thing dwarfs it. Looks to be about the size of the Ork Mega Dredd.
-
I like the model. However true line of sight will do him in big time. Price wise it seems cheap enough though. It reminds me a lot of the robot things in Warmachine though.
Besides I already have three forge world chaos dreads, I must resist buying more!
Also, according to a rumour I read, and I see no reason for this not to be true, theres a new plastic chaos dread coming out in 6th ed box set...

If I collected Iron Warriors that'd make a kick ass daemon prince. But yeah for normal 40k good luck getting your cover save.

With a good opponent, it won't matter if he's 2 inches tall, and he looks so great.
-
It isn't easy for a dreadnought to get a cover save anyway. They are close combat mostly so they need to move out and cannot benefit from area cover. They need ot be obscured by physical terrain.
-
It is one of the best models Forge world have released for 40k in a while.
Normal dreads can often hide behind woods and buildings in my games. I cant see this monster managing to do that! Also it is decidedly more scary looking than a dreadnought statline suggests it should be. I suppose you could use it as a fire magnet :-D
-
I need to clean my pants now.
That is one of the best models I've seen in quite a while.
-
Land raiders and even rhinos at the right angle can obscure dreads. It's pretty easy to do.
That said the model is too good not to own. If the new chaos codex isn't just "evil vanilla" like the current one I might have to dust off my chaos for this bad boy.
-
Stats aren't great, but I do like the model. It is only 4" tall too, so not that hard to hide.
-
Terrible rules, but the points cost is ok I guess. Only str 8, no DCCW.

Decimator Siege Claws
The long-bladed claws of the Decimator crackle with murderous energies.
Attacks made with them ignore armour saves and its player may re-roll
failed To Wound rolls – against targets with an armour value, roll 2D6 and
pick the highest result for Armour Penetration rolls. When the Decimator
inflicts a penetrating hit on a building or transport vehicle carrying
embarked troops, the unit inside suffers D6 Heavy Flamer hits in addition
to any Damage inflicted.
No ... not at all a DCCW. Also, it can come back to life unless it gets blowed up.
-
If it had DCCW it'd be Str 10. Str 10 is better than beefed up lightning claws.
-
Really? In what way?
-
The only bad thing is that it cant penetrate landraiders because of the strength 8. But has better chances of destroying transports. And hurting the passengers with those extra D6 heavyflamer hits.
-
Str 10 lets you ID T5. That's big in my book. Would love to know how a 3+ to pen with the two dice pick highest is better than auto pen against most transports with rear armour 10? I'd wager it's better against MCs too but not by much, probably a wash. The heavy flamed hits are ok but I don't see how he's worth the points, especially with ws and bs 3?
-
I don't think the S8 with rerolls is that bad though. WIll mulch through most normal models without trouble. It isn't significantly better or worse than the normal dreadnought weapons.
I think the Unholy Vigor rule is really quite good. For 155 points this thing is very durable. Between the demonic possession and the ability to shrug off a third of all immobilzed and weapon destroyed, it is one tough cookie. That ignores its get back up ability, which is also pretty good. Taking the mark of Nurgle will make it very very tough!
-
Who cares about FW rules? Buy it and you'll have the coolest ordinary dreadnought in the neighborhood.

This is pretty much what I do with Forgeworld stuff. We dont use special characters, theres no chance forgeworld stuff would be approved!
-
WHy wouldn't it? By and large it isn't any better than the regular type items.
-
I hope 6th makes forgeworld stuff legal so randoms don't whine. My friends use it because friendly games are friendly.
As for this, not at all convinced that he's mathematically better in cc than an ordinary dread with 2x cc. I would however take him with dual butcher cannons.
-
I like him with the two heavy flamers. Plus he doesn't go crazy, is tougher versus incoming hits, and looks sweet. The down sides are that his side armor is bad, he is bigger, and he isn't as strong.
-
And more expensive! That's bad.
Still would use the butcher cannons. They look badass as hell and actually would put out a ton of firepower.
-
True, but once assaulted he gets his ass kicked.
-
I don't know. It kind of reminds me of a transformer. Not really impressed by it.
Besides, women are sexy, not miniatures.
-
True, but once assaulted he gets his ass kicked.
Nah. He's just as tough, but puts out less damage. Anything wanting to assault him will kick his ass with or without his claws. He'll be doing an average of 2 wounds a turn to a tactical squad with his claws, striking after the grenades.. he's pretty bad in assault! WS3 means he's going to get his arse handed to him by PF/PC attacks, other dreads will love his I3 as well. I don't rate him in assault at all.
210 points for a MoT double butcher cannon is wild expensive but the 8x str 8 shots rerolling 1's is pretty nice. Shame about the range though.
If he had AV13 on the front instead of that useless bonus point at the back (way less impressive for walkers than other vehicles), or DCCWs instead of those claws, or WS/I4, then I might rate him...
I still bought one of course. And some skin wolves for my VC army.

Crazy is a good rule since the FAQ Philly. Now it only shoots things in your front arc, meaning providing you place him in a reasonable place, the shooting is only ever a good thing. Running forwards is a bit meh still, but as long as you kept a combat arm, you are still full of win.
-
I would always want a CCW arm on him. Makes him more flexible.

Let me guess...
1) Is it a transformer?
2) Is it a decepticon?
3) Is it... oh I give up...

To me it looks like GW are ripping off Warmachine.
That model looks very similar to this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/27961400@N05/2620703683/
-
Haha, I don't play Warmachine so didn't notice. Nice catch. Pretty sad seeing them side by side!
Still bought it though...
-
Yeah, but it could be said that Warmachine's jacks always looked similar to dreadnoughts anyway.
-

All giant robots look the same!
-
It looks similar, only not shitty.
-
I love forgeworld. My Ork biker boss just arrived today and he is absolutely HUGE. Also one of the XV9 special commanders came. He looks awesome too.
Truly Forge World is the home of the super nerd!
-
GW missed a trick in my opinion by not making this a Chaos Knight. To my mind, it's not a Daemon Engine at all, but then I view Daemon Engines from the perspective of Epic, not 40K (they have no place in regular games of 40K in my opinion, since they are [or should be] simply too large).
The model itself is okay, although it's a bit too much like a glorified Dreadnought for my tastes.
-
True, but once assaulted he gets his ass kicked.
That's only because he likes to tan his cheeks.

I echo this Philly. Forge world make absolutely brilliant models. If I could afford it, I would buy all the models for my armies from Forge World and ignore Games Workshop entirely. That is not to say Games Workshop make bad models, it is more that I think Forge World make exceptional ones, far by the best I have bought.
-
It's cheaper as an Aussie to buy forgeworld than go to an Aussie GW store. I buy a lot of forgeworld, the quality is so high.
-
I have been buying mine from a guy in Russia. I think it is the same thing with him, it is cheap for him to buy and he then sells it to the US at like 20% off retail and still makes a profit.
His selection is limited though.

Can't you buy from the UK? Or is it too expensive/banned these days?
-
I bought a another Relic Contemptor Deadnought from the Russian guy for $30. From GW it would have cost me $50. I bought a Plague drone and a nurgle sorcerer for $39 and $13 rather than $62 and $21. Plus shipping is only $5 plus $1 per additional model. Quite a bit cheaper! Though again, they have a limited selection.

I think thats cheaper than I can buy them for in the UK Philly! Depending on exchange rate obviously, but it certainly looks cheaper.
