That thing is awesome! I just got a Contemptor Dreadnought myself. Great model and surprisingly heavy. That thing dwarfs it. Looks to be about the size of the Ork Mega Dredd.

I like the model. However true line of sight will do him in big time. Price wise it seems cheap enough though. It reminds me a lot of the robot things in Warmachine though.
Besides I already have three forge world chaos dreads, I must resist buying more!

Also, according to a rumour I read, and I see no reason for this not to be true, theres a new plastic chaos dread coming out in 6th ed box set...

If I collected Iron Warriors that'd make a kick ass daemon prince. But yeah for normal 40k good luck getting your cover save.

With a good opponent, it won't matter if he's 2 inches tall, and he looks so great.

It isn't easy for a dreadnought to get a cover save anyway. They are close combat mostly so they need to move out and cannot benefit from area cover. They need ot be obscured by physical terrain.

It is one of the best models Forge world have released for 40k in a while.

Normal dreads can often hide behind woods and buildings in my games. I cant see this monster managing to do that! Also it is decidedly more scary looking than a dreadnought statline suggests it should be. I suppose you could use it as a fire magnet

Land raiders and even rhinos at the right angle can obscure dreads. It's pretty easy to do.

That said the model is too good not to own. If the new chaos codex isn't just "evil vanilla" like the current one I might have to dust off my chaos for this bad boy.

Stats aren't great, but I do like the model. It is only 4" tall too, so not that hard to hide.

The only bad thing is that it cant penetrate landraiders because of the strength 8. But has better chances of destroying transports. And hurting the passengers with those extra D6 heavyflamer hits.

Str 10 lets you ID T5. That's big in my book. Would love to know how a 3+ to pen with the two dice pick highest is better than auto pen against most transports with rear armour 10? I'd wager it's better against MCs too but not by much, probably a wash. The heavy flamed hits are ok but I don't see how he's worth the points, especially with ws and bs 3?

I don't think the S8 with rerolls is that bad though. WIll mulch through most normal models without trouble. It isn't significantly better or worse than the normal dreadnought weapons.

I think the Unholy Vigor rule is really quite good. For 155 points this thing is very durable. Between the demonic possession and the ability to shrug off a third of all immobilzed and weapon destroyed, it is one tough cookie. That ignores its get back up ability, which is also pretty good. Taking the mark of Nurgle will make it very very tough!

This is pretty much what I do with Forgeworld stuff. We dont use special characters, theres no chance forgeworld stuff would be approved!

I hope 6th makes forgeworld stuff legal so randoms don't whine. My friends use it because friendly games are friendly.

As for this, not at all convinced that he's mathematically better in cc than an ordinary dread with 2x cc. I would however take him with dual butcher cannons.

I like him with the two heavy flamers. Plus he doesn't go crazy, is tougher versus incoming hits, and looks sweet. The down sides are that his side armor is bad, he is bigger, and he isn't as strong.

Still would use the butcher cannons. They look badass as hell and actually would put out a ton of firepower.
