Witch hunters and sniper special rule.

If the witch hunter has the ring of volas and rolls a spell like fireball which does d6 or whatever hits.   Do you think he can pick out his quarry and fire all d6 hits on that one hero/lord?

No: the rules says: "the Witch Hunter may choose to shoot at the primary quarry as if he had the the Sniper special rule"(Army Book p. 37). Magic is NOT shooting.

Who knows... I feel that that part of the faq wasnt very well thought through. With that answer they opened a whole can of worms...

Fluffwise, the FAQ makes no sense IMO. However, it is clearly limited to the Killing Blow Special rule.

All his ranged attacks get killing blow, even magic attacks.  However Sniper is limited to shooting.  Shooting is ranged.  Magic Missle or Direct Damage is ranged.  Magic Missle isn't shooting.

A very limited definition of shooting there. Open to debate me thinks :icon_wink:
However Witch Hunters should have nothing what-so-ever to do with magic. Anyone who starts giving Witch Hunters magic spells to cast deserves burning at the stake! ::heretic::
