Full Metal Doublet - Swan-of-War's Empire Army
« on: June 15, 2010, 07:31:17 PM »
At the end of June I will be attending the Ordo Fanaticus Club Challenge as part of Seattle's Loaded Dicer's team.
This is a "gentleman's tourney" that emphasizes fun and enjoyable lists, hence the medium powered selection.
Not all the models will be attending (no BSB or Helblaster).  Hope you enjoy!

I am digging the fire wizard coversion in the halberdier unit. If I am not mistaken, I recognise the body as an extensively modified Confessor Kyrinov, and the Rod as Ghelt's, however the origin of the head eludes me. Where dat from?

Actually, he's the Necromunda Redeemer with the Eviscerator clipped off and replaced with Gelt's staff.  The pistol's been shaved away and I added the Flagellants bits to cover it (scroll, key, etc)

Looks great!  Also, Swan, I remember your reformation tactica from a long time ago when I was a lurker.  The 8th edition rumors allow for reforms in units with command.  I seem to remember some parts of 7th edition interfering with the original idea but I think your swan tactic is going to be very viable and useful now.

The Swan is from Schleich and pretty easy to pick up at your local Michael's, Target, toy store.
Looks like they have some different poses now.  The armor was greenstuffed on by a friend.
Schleich Swan

I've been searching for Ostriches for years and Jeff Valent's Dwarves of the Golden Cobra line fits the bill.
Had to hack them up a bit to add the GW pieces (Knight/Pistolier legs, Bretonnian bodies/arms/shields).  Added a bunch of extra bits around the waists to hide the gaps.

It seems like the feets are hidden behind the wings.

They're supposed to be hidden under the wings, but they just kinda disappear.
I'd planned to greencast the wings so they stuck out a little bit more, but they would have been too wide to rank up correctly and frankly, I was just happy with my hack job as is.

I just showed my GF the Ostrich knights
and she shouted "gobble gobble pony's!" (as in turkey gobbling)

I swear she is actually 23...

Good man.  I made up a rule 5 years ago when I started my first models and conversions.  If it's O.K. - don't mess with it.  It always got worse if i tried to perfect it.  I did however get good at using glue instead of greenstuff.

Yeah, i picked it up cheap on Ebay one early morning.  Didn't realize it was undersized at the time.
So I have a powder monkey + gnoblars as its crew.   Was going to use it for the Steam Elephant too (coming out of it's mouth)

Sticking with your exotic theme you could repaint the pistolier horses to make them zebras?
