Non human races in the Empire
« on: October 27, 2012, 12:12:31 PM »
Hello fellow generals, what do you know about other races in the empire?
I know there is a halfling community in the moot, but are there dwarf communities
or any settlements of other creatures?  :-)

Cheers

pretty sure back in 3/4 edition you could take imperial dwarves, ogres were a choice too iirc.
the old fluff was that they lived within the empire but i'm digging back a long time into the memory banks :-)
Compared to the state troops they are a gentle handjob on a friday evening - jaggedjimmyj in ref to knights

In terms of army lists, there were Halflings, Dwarves and Ogres in the Empire army up until 5th edition.
In terms of fluff, there are Skaven warrens beneath several of the larger cities of the Empire, Bestmen in some of the forests and Undead in Sylvania.

In the glorious city of Marienburg, there are dwarfs, ogres and even an eleven quarter. If memory serves me right, there were even some half-orcs in the southern provinces in earlier editions.

And at least in the roleplaying game there used to be gypsies. I guess they were'nt of the liking of the last emperor.

I would not classify gypsies as a race.
It is not enough to have no ideas of your own; you must also be incapable of expressing them.

IIRC, most cities of the Empire have a Dwarven Quarter. Dwarven skill in metal working and stone masonry outpaces the vast majority of Empire craftsmen so most cities in the Empire, especially wealthy ones, do what they can to vie for the attention of Dwarves willing to relocate from their mountain holds. Given enough time, these Dwarves come to see the Empire as their home, albeit a temporary one most likely, and will fight in its defense.

Laurelorn Forrest has the largest Wood Elf population outside Athel Loren.

Unlike the Imperial dwarves, halflings and even Ogres, these wood elves do not recognise Karl Franz as their leader, or as the ruler of all the lands claimed by the Empire...

Do it!

Dwarfs look good in an Empire army. Have a few myself.

If your gaming group is enlightened enough to not take this WYSIWYG thing too seriously, I see no problem with using whatever figures you like, as long as they look reasonably appropriate. BTD, for example has some very nice Halflings which mix well with GW.

I've thought about incorporated a dwarven unit in my Ostermark Army.  That standard bearer should fit rather nicely.

For years I've been considering using Dwarves with Great Weapons as Greatswords. I worry that many won't like it but meh.

Like librisrouge already stated, most cities have a dwarven quarter. From what I've read, the city of Nulin has many Dwarves, especially in the Engineer school.
In Wissenland there was a dwarf settlement called Bugman's Brewery. It got razed to the ground by orcs and goblins though. But it doesn't mean there are not other similar settlements in the Empire.

And there might be the occasional Elf at the Imperial School of Magic.
For Wissenland and the Countess!!!

I already have some dwarfs and halflings I intend to sprinkle into my units. I started in 3rd edition when they were viable units on their own, so to hell to complainers :P
