I know just how you feel. Im not a big fan of unit fillers, but this army would need some show piece to work visually. Ironically i have enough models to leave out the unit filler, but it will pep up the look of the swordmen unit. Im just afraid that the greatswords will look a bit dull compared to other troops... I think i'll just add light effects on them too (replacing the skull at the banner with a torch from the black coach)..

anyways, here are some more models, 9 more militia WIP which i just finished

i've removed the sand from the bases of the artillery crewmen

and the 2. miltia unit:

I think im catching the darkness 'feel' pretty well. The torch lights didnt end up as good as last time, but its okay for me.. I really like the lamp though!

Really nice Neffy

I would suggest painting all units with the glow/light effect, those militiamen would look out of place among the other cool models

Have you got your own witch hunter soon, cant wait to see him painted. Are you going to get the Gideon Lorr or the normal lord with the silly hat?

thanks you m8. i think you're right. some units will have more light effects than others (flagellants for example) but i have some problems with making effects on characters (AL, captain) since none of them has torches, i dont want to exchange weapons with stick on fire.. not sure what i do

I just ordered the retinue with 2 others via powerfist.dk, since they needed some of those models too.. so i've chosed the normal lord with the COOL hat!

He has a cool pistol and a sword so i wont need to convert. i didnt have any cool sword arms anyway.. He actually has fire comking out of the pistol and i could use that to make the light effects, but it just seems weird to use the gun as a lamp :/

You could put a candle in the top of his silly hat

or you could paint his sword with a glow effect that shines on the character. Magic sword ehh? Or you could at his base add a lamp....

Uh yeah.. i've thought of something like that. Using the Sword with flames on it from the battle wizard sprue.. I just hope he is not too big for his base. if he isnt, i could add a candle yeah

i could use the skull with candles on it, from the same sprue as mentioned. Just have to remove the hand holding it.

yeah, it is a good site. I mainly use it for køb/salg related stuff

I was thinking more of a silver light/white light on the character for weapon glow effect- so he stands out a bit.
But flamesword is also a good idea, didnt think of that.

An idea to a new unit filler could be some statetroops playing with molotowcocktails - and it goes wrong... very wrong

aah, yeah some shiney white look.. That could look cool. I might take your candle idea though! that looks sweet. Also the model will be more fragile if i remove his sword and add a new one in plastic..

I like your molotov idea, and i have got some wine bottles from the state troops box. Dont know how to sculpt an explosion though? :O i still need to make one more miltia squad of 9, and they could adopt the molotov bottles! that way these also have some light effects.. coool

I'm very envious of the bases Neffy.

I've tried a similar trick to your cardboard bricks with paper cobblestone. I did not get much texture distinction leading to very bland bases which I later stripped.

Perhaps normal paper was too thin compared to the cardboard you used. I also noticed that you did not prime your cardboard. I think you've inspired me to try again.

Just got some more models i've waited for a looong time:

To stay with the darker sylvanian witch huntery look i added the torch from the black coach to the banner pole, replacing the boring skull with laurels..

These greatswords will be painted next i think. In dark brown and black colours..

... i would either chop it down to a reasonable size or add some symbols of some kind, maybe a little skull.. dunno

Does he have a futuristic eye on his right eye?

Dont put the shield under the backpack, but over it... Hang it loosly close to his left arm so you still are able to so the right half of the backpack. The shield also gives room for a nice place to paint a symbol (freehand?). Or you could put the shield on the ground leaning up against the candle.

Sure the eye will look like a monocle when painted? You could also try cut it away and clean it up with greenstuff by making a pirate patch. Those cultist always aim for the eyes... or knees (they stopped aiming for the croutch after the invention of the codpiece

)

That's a nice looking bunch of troops. I really like the theme.

Are you going to make an army display for them? A city environment at night would be really suiting.

you can even place youre troops next to some walls en let the light shine on the walls as well

Funny you should say that, 'cause I just bought a box of GW's walls and fences which i will use on movement trays for the troops

There'll be the odd dead tree and brick walls, as well as wooden fences.. Every unit with light effects will get some of these walls/fences and i'll give them glows of light too
