Cavalry for the Emperor's Lustrian expitionary force WIP
« on: April 22, 2009, 12:38:41 AM »
The fine young fellows survivors, are riding their lizard mounts after they and their mounts ate the original horses that went to lustria. first is a unit of pistoliers and then a unit of knights, there is is an outrider unit being assembled currently, now if I just had more time to paint.....steveb

I love your creativity.  I don't think I've ever seen a mix of Empire and Lizardman figures, and you've done it very nicely.  Only thing is I can't stand those version of Cold Ones.  The overall conversions look great though. :-)

Very cool stuff. Like the idea of the knights. Might do that for mine.

Though I like your models, I don't like the idea because of fluff reasons. If you have read the Dark Elf army book, you might know that warm-blooded races have to rub themselves in with "something" (don't actually remember twhat exactly  :icon_lol:) so the cold-ones don't eat them. Though, this has the horrible drawback that these men can't feel or taste anymore, including the feeling of a kiss, etc.  :icon_wink: So, I can't see why humans would want to sacrifice all great things in life so they could have some kind of mount. Dark Elves on the other hand (or at least some of them) 'do' live to fight or see it as one of the major things in life. Bu as said, great models.  :icon_wink:

Those turned out great!  Will you be putting any more lizardmen trophies on the riders?

LOL, yeah because that would never happen. It would be as inconceivable as lions pulling a chariot, a tank powered by steam, winged horses or dead things moving about.  :eusa_wall:

steveb,
Keep up the great work. :::cheers:::

soren,  I see you using that word very often.  I do not think it means what you think it means.

That being said,  very nice work on those.

I don't think you really understood what he meant. The things you mentioned are all established as "working" in the background - but given the way "Cold One-Riders" are explained, he just thinks it's not a good fit storywise. A better comparison than your examples would be a dwarf riding a pegasus, a high elf riding a boar or an Ork riding a mechanical horse. Of course all of that could theoretically somehow happen in the Warhammer universe - but going by fluff, it takes some amount of contrived story-bending to make it "work" ;)

That being said, I still like the basic idea of your Lustrian expedition, steveb. I'm just not too keen on those "new" cold ones - the old ones looked way neater and more menacing.

"counts as" they are not really horses, but horse mutations that look like lizards, or lizards that think they are horses after several dead horses fell into the hatching pond and infected the spawn with horse genes, or maybe it was an act of desparation of cavaliers who refused to walk no matter what.  It doesn't matter to me, it has provided some variety to my army and a change of pace to my painting/assembling chores.  I do however thank all of you for your opinions, I do treasure your thoughts and value your opinions. But if it is fun for me, I am going to do it anyway.  thanks all.  steveb

They could also be a different kind of cold ones, who due to isolation has evoled differently, perhaps on an island off of the coast of Lustria.
Or something like that ^^

yes and the stegasus stank, and the temple guard detachment who guard the slain slann (best kind) who is a unit filler/mascot for a regiment of halbadiers; And the pygmy spearmen and hunters,  the amazons, and the ship's crew and the lizard rocket launcher to name a few. happy times for me. steveb
