Topic: Kneadadite =/= Greenstuff?

Ok, so the problem is:

I've read on many websites that Citadel Green Stuff and Kneadadite are actually completely the same thing. So when I recently bought a fair amount of Kneadadite off Ebay for a reasonable price, I thought I could do nothing wrong. However, having now tried it in various mixes (ranging from almost yellow to almost blue only), I can't help but notice that i does not feel and "react" the same at all. Even with larger portions of blue it's stickier, softer (almost mushy) etc. and generally much more of a a pain to work with than the last half stripe of Citadel GS I've been working with.

So, is it just me, is this stuff really not EXACTLY the same of has Citadel GS become as shitty over the last 2 1/2 years as well?

yes it has become less than it was, but it was never in my opinion quite the same anyway, but what it is good for is mixing with greenstuff, makes it workable for a longer period of time, so if you are converting a large number of figures you can get to the end and still go back and tweak the poorer looking ones and add anything that you forgot. steveb  P.S. the kneadatite also makes a good gap filler, but I usually use car auto body filler for that, its a lot lot lot cheaper. but it does stink a little bit. steveb

Could it be a factor of the age of the stuff?

I know when I've got a really fresh batch it behaves a little different than stuff I've had for a couple years.

Green stuff is Kneadatite. Kneadatite is simply the brand name. GW calls is modeling putty (green stuff). If GW were to sell it as Kneadatite then even more people would wize up to the cost increase and buy elsewhere. A while back GW had blue/white stuff. It was total crap and they switched back. I dont know if it was also a Polymeric product or not.

Buying from e-bay means you have no idea or control over how old the product is. Id say you just some bad material. Try warming it up just a little before mixing.

I could, of course, be totally wrong! GW could have 'acquired' the secret formula, built a clan lab, be creating the exact color shape and size product and packing it in small overpriced amounts just to trick us. I havent known GW to be that industrious.

Well, if it's the same stuff, it certainly lost a lot of quality over the last years... And I don't think it's actually "bad material"...  it semlls "fresh", no doubt. But it's just not as pliable as the batches of GS I was working with only one week ago (and that WAS 3 years old and  -out of the blister).

I hear you on that! Another thing I noticed was the amount used. When I started using it I would take off only the amount I needed to minimize waste. It was hard to mix and not sticky enough to hold to anything (still stuck to the tools though ). So I mixed more material just to see if it would change things. It was easier to mix, softer and had a lot more tack to it.

I still say try warming it. This will make it softer and cure faster.

I would use it to mix with the green stuff to get more of the feel that you want, but since you are sending it to me that is what I will do.

I find green stuff needs to be adapted depending on its' use.

I mix it with magic sculp for smooth effects, for example.

If I want really hard material (sandable), I'll use ProCreate (Grey stuff)

By the way, GF 9 sell both grey and green in acceptable price/quantity packs.

I think this is the most likely cause of the difference. How old is the Citadel GS? How long are you letting it sit before you use it?
