I really like DoW but I am not a good converter and I am tight with my money so if you could help m with these

A. Dulliests ( My idea is just free comp)
B. light calvalry
c. pikes
d. Dow cannon

Please help

State troop, there are a few tutorials on this forum on how to make pikes, but I am totally unable to utilise search functions myself. The basic thing is to take empire spearmen, get some metal rod about the same thickness as the spears, and use this to elongate the weapon. Alternatively, just purchasing pikes from Old Glory or the Perry twins works aswell.

If you're not playing at a GW, and like Puff and slash, just purchasing Old Glory Pikemen could do well too.

For the rest, I'm sure someone will chime in soon.

1. You can make nice duelists from free comp.

3. Old DoW pikemen or convert them from 6th ed. empire spearmen.
4. Galloper guns or simply empire cannons. Or you can ude dwarf cannons, it would look also good.

I made a sort of DOW cannon by shortening the barrel of and insereting a plastic tube into a regular Empire one

light cavalry? if you have some just use it, if you don't have any then just buy some. There is no easy way to make light cav if you don't have some to begin with.  What do you have to work with? and when you say light cav just what is it you are wanting? horse archer? lances? spears? swords? what kind of light cav? Give us a clue and we can and will help you if possible but a little more direction is needed.  awainting your reply and hoping to be able to help. steveb

Because I don't play at a GW, I buy foundry, frontrank and old glory stuff to use. They can fit alright sometimes with GW, though GW stuff have super massive hands and heads.

If you want just GW, then elongating the spears on state troopers (if you can stand their ugliness) and using lots of free company boxes. You can order 'medieval' horses from GW which, when used with certain parts of the free company box, bit of sawing, filing and cutting make good enough light cav, though I haven't tried it myself.

Here is a WIPpicof my kit bashed Mounted Yeomen for my Emptonnians:


I used the rider legs out of the old Command sprue. Free Company Head, chest and arms with unbarded horses of the old pistoliers. You can easy do a hand swap and give them spears. If you wanted more armor on the riders, I'd suggest using pistoliers themselves and just giving them spears.

First Ebay can be a treasure trove of items if you find the right lots.  I have built three armies at the same time for the cost of one from the stores.

As people have pointed out repeatedly, the free company box is best for duelists.  At the same time you will get spare bits for other things.

If you want light cav with either hand weapons or bows, easy to take pistoliers and swap bits from free company set.  Something I have looked at doing is using goblin wolf riders as light cav.  The stats are not to different, can easily say, fluff wise, that they are gobos that have overcome their fear of elves, squabbling nature, and anything else that would make them gobos...  There is also the hobogoblin special unit that also isn't that different from goblin wolf riders.  Plastic kit, likely to find cheap on ebay at some point, get DoW light cav with spears.

Common pikemen conversion is empire state troops with either lengthened or replaced spear shafts, a conversion I am planning on doing soon.

Cannons covered well, either dwarf cannon or modified empire cannon.  Note on galloper gun, expect to pay apprx $30 usd or more for them from ebay, high demand. (speaking of, if anyone has a gun and crew, but not bronzino, pls let me know)

Also, easy conversion for paymaster bodyguard, state-troop body guard with pistolier head.  Right paint scheme and this looks awesome!  I will post pics of mine eventually.

Also any mounted kislevs work well in a DoW army, the list even references them, although they are not cheap on ebay.

Well, one way would be using Warlord plastic spanish-style morion helmets with Empire troops, instantly making them Estalian-looking:

Im very shure that the GW model thing only requires that 50% of the model is actualy made by GW. Using alternate heads is well and aceptable as well as LOTR... but I think they will refuse to photograph it if the model is LOTR.

On top of that the easiest way to make a DOW army is to use alternate ranges. Old Glory, Warlord and Others make fantastic models that blend in very well with little or no conversion work. (Cheap)

As for pikes, Brass Rods are the favored solution, but sometimes throw the weight of the miniature.

In addition to that using somthing like the search engine will bring up several how to's that members have posted in the past.

Declaring Heretic is generaly reserved for trators who play a chaos army in their spare time (well painted chaos generaly get Kudos however...), using non GW models is completely Kosher here.
