Greetings from Stirland! These knights are amazing! They must be an awesome sight on the battlefield. Even the Bretonnians must envy them!

I think that these are the best Knights of the Blazing Sun I have ever seen, and there have been some pretty good ones on here in the past, so you really have set a high standard with these.

The horses also work really well, and the posing of each model is much more dynamic than anything GW has ever managed with its Empire cavalry in my opinion.

I have a unit of Knights of the Blazing Sun (unpainted), but they look very ordinary in terms of the posing compared to these.  I wish I had been able to view this kind of inspirational work before I had assembled mine.

In case I ever earn enough money to be able to assemble the necessary parts to do something similar, would you be able to list the pieces which you used which didn't come from the Knightly Orders boxed set, or are there just too many to mention?

As for the paint job, it's simply excellent, and I think you have captured the Knights perfectly without going over the top.  This is the kind of stuff that should be displayed in White Dwarf in my opinion.

Thank you much for the great compliments.  To be honest, there aren't as many varied parts as you might think.  For the "regular knights" (is there such a thing as a regular knight?) I used a Bretonnian Horse (duh), the Empire Knight, and some feathers from a combination of Pistoliers, Handgunners, and Statetrooper sprues.  The standard bearer uses the same as the regular knights, but I used a sun symbol from the Warhammer Fortified Manor set for the icon on top of the pole, and for the knight's head piece I used an iron halo from a space marine sprue.

The Hero figure has the addition of the Griffon on his helm (from the fortified manor again... awesome set for extra bits!), with wings from the High Elf Lord set.  I applied some purity seals from space marine sprues, and on his right shoulder is a shoulder-pad decoration, also from a space marine sprue.  The shields for every thing came from old Bretonnian Knights.

If you want to buy just bits, checkout e-bay and do a search for warhammer bits.  There are some guys on there that sell just bits from sprues.  That's how I got all my extra bits for these.

Truely fantastic work.  Do you have any estimate of how long a single knight took to complete?  Just curious how many hours went into the unit.  I also think work that good should be insured.  I agree with Irisado that White Dwarf should be giving you a call.

Thanks!  I can't be sure since I use an assembly-line technique, but I would guess that the unit took about 30 hours from sprue cutting, gluing, priming (but not waiting for the primer to dry  ), to painting.  add about 2 hours for the flag, and the hero I spent extra time on, so add another 6 hours for him.  So about 40+ hours in all would be a guess.

Greetings from Stirland! These knights are amazing! They must be an awesome sight on the battlefield. Even the Bretonnians must envy them!

Thanks for the compliments! I hope Stirland is doing well!  They do indeed tend to grab people's attention, and unfortunately people's fire and magic too!  As far as if Bretonnians envy them, I'll post my Bretonnians sometime and let you decide.

As promised, here are some photos for my Battle Priestess of Myrmidia.  I was wanting her to really pop-out from the rank & file,  so I decided on a white-theme for her garments.  I was really pleased how the scab-red details in the cloak & seat complimented the plain white robes, and  the black and golden trim brought everything together.  This was actually the miniature I converted and painted that in turn inspired me to do an entire unit of Blazing Suns.

I might have to steal that idea for the Myrmidian Priestess.  That's brilliant

OMG the knights are EXCELLENT work. Love the different colours on them. Even if you have added the black red and yellow. Looks also like a little German type of knights! :eusa_clap: As fore the priestess indeed brilliant :eusa_clap:

Please keep up the good work. When do we see the state troops?

Very cool warrior priestess. I think a great idea would be to take the new greatswords into knights of the blazing sun on foot. That wouldlook cool.

I'm currently taking painting commissions and drawing commissions at the moment.

Thanks for posting the information on the bits you used, that's really helpful, and I will definitely be making a note of that.

The Priestess is excellent, and I think the colours you have chosen really do stand out well, and the white, in particular, is very fitting for her background and role.

She certainly looks as though she is about to head some zealous charge, the way in which she is brandishing that sword.

Very good stuff!

they look great man.. definately a nice refreshing look over the bland gw schemes.  I don't like playing devil's advocate, but I do think your highlighting is a little thick on the black parts.  The grey looks too stark and would do well with a glaze or two of black wash to tie it in a little bit.  Right now it's not a natural progression and looks like you just painted grey instead of tried to higlight.  Love 'em man, your yellows are ace!!

Believe it or not, I think it was the time of day I chose to photograph them.  Looking at the photos I agree they look very stark in the black areas, but when you look at the models themselves in normal light, the blending looks much better.  But I do think I will go back through and blend them a little better, not to mention fix all the mistakes I have found by looking at my photos (amazing how looking at photos of your work helps you find the little errors).

Thanks for the comments though.  I always appreciate well though-out critiques.  Its the only way we get better!

I find tons of flaws in photos that I can't see in normal light.  I think mold lines like to jump out and go 'look at me' whenever the camera is pointed at them.

But it does mean you can go back and fix them

Too true!  Moldlines are the worst about that!  Just when you think you scraped them all off!  :eusa_wall:
