My wife would say "hoarder" not fortunate!   :icon_eek:

Seriously, though, I'd say persistent more than fortunate, and probably lucky too to have the means to indulge in some of these figs, which can get costly.  That said, I've been collecting these models since about 1997.  I made a good-sized investment in them last year to round out the collection and I have a few more odds and ends on order, but most of what you are looking at was actually accumulated a long time ago, when these models were still in production and much cheaper.

Hope you enjoy them - should have a few more things relatively soon.

OK, here is the latest installment of my Kislevites - a 14 man unit of Streltsi.

These figures are, of course, from the Mordheim range, except that the pistol in the left hand of the commander is a plastic piece form the Empire Pistoliers/Outrider set.

The troops are painted largely the same way I painted the commander of the Pushki, Atldorf Blue coats washed with Drakenhof Nightshade (I'm out of the old Asurmen Blue). The pants and caps are  Khorne Red, but I decided to brighten them with a layer of Khadof Red Base (a P3 paint), and them washed the area with Carrosburg Crimson.  The fur is Ceramite White heavily washed with Nuln Oil.  The gloves, which are a major feature on the Streltsi, are Dryad Bark and the feature at the end of the hilt of the commander's sword is painted in Retriibutor Gold from the new metalics ranger.

One interesting feature on the Mordheim Streltsi is that the right legs are wrapped in some sort of leather straps, presumably because the soldiers don't have a shoe.  I painted this area in Baneblade Brown and washed it in Argax Earthshade.

As you can see, these fellows are lined up behind stakes, as infantry armed only with muzzle-loading firearms probably wouldn't have much hope on the open steppe given their slow rate of fire and inaccuracy.  I'd say they give no cover against fire, but units attacking across them would suffer -1 to hit for attacking troops in cover.  I re-purposed the stakes from a set I made for an historical miniatures wargame years ago.

The base is made from the WHFB basing kit, but the borders are plastruct pieces, just like I used for the Reiters (though these pieces are a little bigger).

For a bit more fluff and some historical background on the real Streltsi, check out my blog - thearmyoftheicequeen.blogspot.com

Very very jealous of all the mordheim miniatures

The streltsi look good. I think you would really profit from doing some more highlighting if you want to take it up another notch.

I would also consider placing the streltsi on non-diagonal bases, so they could all fire forwards instead of to the side.

Yes, your lighting critique is true.  Still trying to work something up.  I did try to base them on a straight-slot, but their legs are just far enough apart that they are a bit too large to base that way, at least if you are going to rank them up as a unit.

Man, these Mordheim boys are gorgeous. You could probably buy a small army for all those Mordheim minis. Not too long ago I've paid 60 $ for 8 Orlock gangers.

Time for an update - 28mm pikemen from the Assault Group's Renaissance Russian Range.  These are the first 12 of what will be a unit of 36.

Now for a close-up of the commander and musician:

Now the standard bearer (I'm still working on the flag) and color sergeant:

And now of the rank and file - 4 poses, each with 2 head variants:

For some fluff on this unit, check out my blog - thearmyoftheicequeen.blogspot.com

And please check out the assault group - some great Renaissance figures and they also carry some of White Knight's castings - http://www.theassaultgroup-shop.co.uk/index.php

Okay - so I finally got me unit of Jiltsi/Rindi complete!  2 more rank and file, plus the musician and the standard bearer on a custom-made thick Plastruct base with Plastruct borders.  I don't think the WHFB basing kit could support all the weight of such a large metal unit, at least not without bending a bit when it was picked up.  This base is thick and heavy enough that I don't have to worry about it:

The standard bearer is one of the Kislevite Mordheim champions and he is holding in his left hand the mace that is on the weapons sprue.  The banner pole is a metal rod and I put it through one of the plastic hands from the weapons sprue (the weapon was cut away) in the Empire Militia Box (which was also the Human Mordheim sprue).

The musician is the other Kislevite Mordheim champion.  Both of his hands are from the White Wolf Sprue in the Knightly Orders box.  The right hand has one of the warhammers that go with the hand.  The left hand, however, is holding a metal trumpet I bought from the Assault Group, Ltd.  It is soft metal, so I cut away a bit of it to make it appear that the Musician has his hand wrapped around part of the trumpet:

Thanks.  They were a fair amount of work, but I'm very happy with how they came out.  I'm making progress on my Soldat pikemen.  12 more done (24 out of 36) and I also produced the banner this afternoon:

Very cool looking banner! Is it made from paper or is that a plastic freehand job?

Thanks - it is paper.  It is a European coat of arms for some city or province that I found on a website.  I then flipped the image and saved it, so that I had two bears, one looking left, the other right, so that one would go on both sides of the flag and both will face forward.  I printed the two  images side by side, then folded them together, using a thin white glue to affix the two sides to one another.

A very oldschool method. I remember printing banners from old WFB books, back in a day.

Yes, it is essentially the same method, though with the benefit of being able to choose your own flags thanks to the miracles of the modern laser printer and internet access, and also the ability to modify, at least somewhat, the images you find by using the various "paint" type software that are out there.

And yes, the halberdiers were a fair amount of work, though the overall level of detail on the figures is not as great as it is on the Kossars.  Also, the "miracle of washes" makes things a bit easier by covering up some minor mistakes.

I actually have th 4th edition Empire army book with the banners inside. I think I'll print some of them and glue them to my standard bearers. Will definetly look nice. :smile2:

I have another pushki (cannon) coming and I'm just about done with the soldats (pikemen) but I decided to finish up another unit of Ungol horse archers I've had just about done but never completed.

Finally got my unit of 36 Soldat pikemen (assaultgroup.co.uk) finished and had the time to build a good, sturdy base from Plastruct.

The base is thick and the borders are high enough to keep the figures in place (more or less).  It still takes a lot of care to move the unit, but if I'm a careful, I can do it with relatively low risk of toppling figures or impaling myself on the pikes  :|

I like the first pushki I build so much I decided to dig out the other 2d cannon I bought years ago and build another unit.

The base is a 3x4 plastic construct using the WHFB basing kit.  Gaps in the border and gaps between the 20mm bases were filled with P3 modelling putty instead of squadron white stuff - easier to work with, better at filling large gaps, and far less smelly. I then used a good sized file and put a thin coat of white stuff over everything to smooth it all out.  The base then was covered with the same terrain as I've been using plus the barrel and 3 cannonballs from the WHFB Empire cannon plastic set.

A couple of side views:

The crew was constructed on the same general principle as the last one - a mix of Nuln and Kislev type figures with some amount of kit-bashing.

I like this figure a lot.  It was an old Citadel figure, I think from the Marauder era.  He was originally holding a spear, which I cut away and replaced with a plastic ramrod from the Empire plastic artillery kit.  I then modified the sponge (which is just smooth plastic) by coating it in white stuff, to make it look like an actual sponge.  I particularly like the pants, which have an "Empire" feel. The blue is a bit different than white I normally do - it is "the Fang" washed with Secret Weapon Wash "blue/black."  I was hoping it would look more smoky and dirty than other blue covered areas and it did, a little, but that is hard to see in the picture, so that wasn't entirely satisfactory.

The commander is a Mordheim Kislevite - I had one too many for my 28 man bodyguard, so I transferred this fellow to the artillery.  His left hand is the unique feature.  The match is the match from the Empire plastic artillery set, but that match is held in a right hand on the sprue.  I cut the match away and glued it to a left hand taken from the Empire Militia/Free Company box, specifically, the hand holding a bow.  The angle of that hand allowed the match to be held at an angle that approximates someone lighting off a cannon.

This fellow is a metal figure from the old Empire metal cannon set, painted in the livery of the City of Nuln.

Pikemen turned out good. I was sceptical when seeing the individually not great figures, but seeing them all ranked up and pointy, they do look very nice

Thanks - I'm an OK but not great painter, but I follow a general rule I learned from a wargamer friend who is an artist by training - if you are painting to play rather than for show or competition, the key is be able to paint quickly enough to get your army on the board and well enough that your figures look good from about 2-3 feet away, because that is about as close as most people get to them during the course of a game.    I think I hit that standard, especially through the use of color schemes, washes, basing materials, etc.
