6th edition Mounted Characters in Infantry?

How does this interaction work in 6th edition where mounted characters have different base sizes to the infantry they join?

Ok I found this excerpt from the Warhammer chronicles 2004 that shows diagrams.

https://6th.whfb.app/characters/characters-in-units

But it still doesn't explain for example, what happens to a unit with a non square formation (due to a character with a different base size displacing the unnit) gets charged? Do you measure from the model that is sticking out or do you assume the model isn't sticking out? And once a charging unit makes base contact are they only in base contact with the model sticking out or do we assume the models fill in the gap?

According to "Manoeuvring During a Charge", you need to wheel the charging unit as many times as need to maximize the number of models in contact, and "Once a unit has completed any required wheel it is moved straight forward towards the enemy and stops as soon as the two units touch."

So my understanding would be if the unit with the character is charged in the rear, and the character's base is sticking out, you stop the moment your a model in your front rank touches the character's base. An I think that means the only the models in contact with the character gets to attack in this case.

It's anything but clear how to deal with this, but in this case I'd be inclined to apply by analogy the rules commentary on p. 264 of the Big Red Book about a rear charge against a unit with an incomplete rear rank:

'In this situation, models can attack the enemies in front of them even if not physically in base-to-base contact. In reality the chargers would not have stopped one metre away from the enemy and would have moved in, finishing their charge.'
