Wizards in a Pistolier unit

Sorry if this has been covered, I just searched and got nothing useful as a result.
My question has to do with adding a wizard character to a unit of pistoliers.
Characters have a 360 degree line of sight
Pistoliers have a 360 degree line of site
The rules guru at our store says "No, once the character enters a unit he loses that ability.
So what is the rule? can a wizard who normally sees all around himself, somehow become a 90 degree angle visionary? or am I being given bad information?
I want to add a level 2 mage to my pistoliers because within the unit he can get really close to enemy units and get those 12" range death spells off in good order. It also allows him a much better view of the overall battle so I can get other spells in where they are needed.
So c'mon guys, give me the real dirt on this situation! Oh and please offer up where I can verify this for our store manager, cause he'll call me on it if It's the way I want it to be =)
Thanks!

Once a character joins a unit, he loses his 360 LOS, just like any other rank and file model. Also, the idea of pistoleers is to annoy the flanks of your opponent, which is not a good idea with a wizard in the front rank, therefore defeating the purpose of both of them.

Characters on horses do not have 360 degree LOS
page 95 BRB characters and line of sight.
Pistoliers only can shoot 360 degrees but don't have 360 degrees LOS.
reread page 117 of the BRB.
Your knowledge of the rules is a bit flawed...

You could still run the Wiz with the Pistoliers, and just treat it as a harrassment unit. You still get the movement rules of Fast Cav, just not the "shooting" ability. You wouldn't want to charge with that unit, in most cases (unless you had Bear's Anger cast, perhaps? Ah, but you said "Death" magic, so nevermind).

I may still put him in there, I would just have to watch my positioning of the unit at the end of their movement to make the best use of his abilities.

Warrior Priest is a better bet with Pistoliers!

Someone mentionned casting Bear's Anger, this reminded me of my question. Bear's anger can only be cast in close combat. but is a unit that is charging in close combat? If not you could only benefit from the spell in your second round of combat, the third round in total. the wizard should be goners by that time.

I've kept my options open my pinning my Wizards instead of glueing them to barded mounts (as I would normally have done). This allows me to mount them on unbarded steeds and use them with Pistoliers on occasion. A Bright Wizard is an interesting addition as magic missiles can still be used even if the Pistoliers marched.

Kulgan, a model is considered to be in close combat as soon as the bases are in contact with enemy models.
