What exactely should I use for WYSIWYG Pigeon Bombs?
« on: August 22, 2007, 09:30:30 PM »
I know, I know... Engineers suck...

Now that we got that out of the way, what do you guys who are insane enough to use them, use for pigeon models? I wanted quite a few unfortunately... I was going to do some conversions on the rest of my army and wanted somewhere between 10-15 small birds

Anyone have any ideas (without breaking the already fragile bank)?

Greenstuff?
eh, my greenstuff skills are... well lets face it I don't have any greenstuff skills :icon_sad:

Are there any swarms or anything that include parrots, or pigeons, or crows, or swallows? At that size they are so small no one is going to notice the difference between an African and European swallow

I donno bro... you could always try the train store, and hobby store that would have the conventional animal packs and things like that for small scale miniatures...

I don't know... You better make them African pigeons or maybe use two European pigeons for bombs. Swallows can only carry coconuts!

I think the Giant model comes with one bird that looks like it is on a perch.
Maybe as for ird donations from players owning a giant and not needing the bird.

Just paint him looking irritated with dollops of bird poo on his shirt. If that isn't WYSIWYG I don't know what is. Or there's the hawk on Aldebrand Ludenhof's arm.

The brettonian knights of the realm sprue comes with a bird (falcon or something), and the Wood Elves dryad sprue comes with an owl. So see if you have Bret or WE player around you who are willing to give/trade you the parts.

The falcons from that old Wood Elf Falconer (Skaw?) model would be ideal. Although I'm not sure if you can still get them...

Or one could simply use already made engineer figure:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99060202107&orignav=13

The one with repeater pistol and that bird on a shoulder... Painted in white and with a little bit of that beak removed should do as pigeon quite well...

I think you should model a pig with wings as your pigeon bombs, because Engineers should only be used when you can see pigs fly. :-D

That ones not bad, but I really wanted one with outstretched wings

You know those flying balls from the Harry McPotter movies? I was thinking something in the lines of that for my own engineer's flying bombs of doom. Rather than actual pigeons - that's just too sad lol.

If i can get a picture of my engineer on here i will so i can show you.  What i did was make an engineer from militia parts.  One of the arms is stretched out straight with closed fist.  I then made it so it looked like he was holding a cage with birds.  I found some furry birds at a craft store and placed them in the cage.  One of the guys i play with had an idea to get some thick wire and have the birds flying out of the cage. I haven't tried that yet.

I was checking old posts and saw this pigeon thread, saw one of the greed legend movies last night and hercules or whoever was working with a mechanical owl from athena.  The thought occured to me that some of you excellent converters could make a mechanical pigeon, what would be more appropriate for an engineer? steveb

I'd agree with using the engineer model with the pigeon/hawk/bird thing on his shoulder.
Maybe slightly too late, but oh well.

My question now.
Why are you even considering using an engineer???

I just put a crate marked "LIVE ANIMALS" next to whatever engineer has pigeon bombs. And yes, I often use multiple engineers. ::heretic::

I know its an old thread but I want to archive my own answer in case I need to search for this idea later.

Anyway, the same cake supply places that sell them nice pillars also sell a bag of birds. They are a very nice size and I had a bag somewhere but cant find them. Regardless if you use Engineers or not these would make a nice addition to any Empire army.

-Really where did I put them!?  :eusa_wall:

why do I field engineers? do you use hochland long rifle? do you use stank? do you use hellblaster or hellstorm? do you use the mounted repeater dudes? well you are fielding engineers whether you like it or not.. it just is the logical thing to do!   You say they are wworthless, if I was interested in winning most of the time I would field a Bret army or lizzards or some such I paly for fun and the engioneer and his creations always make it interesting.   So no more bad mouthing the engineers or we will send a pigeon poop bomb to your General, just for fun!  steveb
