Luthor Huss point value
« on: July 13, 2012, 05:24:36 PM »
Am I seeing this correctly?

For 155 points, Luthor Huss comes with a great weapon (hammer in his case), barded mount, heavy armor and a 4+ ward save. This equals a 3+/4++.  He also has his stubborn prayer and a one use buff for his stats.

For 133-136 points, a WP can be equipped with a great weapon (5), barded mount (20) and armor of destiny (50 pts for 136 points total) OR great weapon, barded mount, heavy armor (2) and talisman of protection (45pts for 133 points total).

So Luthor Huss's +1 WS, his stubborn prayer and his one use buff is worth 19-22 points?

Hmm, good point. I hadn't made that calculation yet. But, then again, I have not used the new Luthor Huss yet. If he still had Fear, he would be a bargain, though.
It is not enough to have no ideas of your own; you must also be incapable of expressing them.

Or for 178-181 points, you can get an AL on a barded warhorse, heavy armor, talisman of protection.
This costs 23-26 more points than Luthor Huss, and is -1WS, +1W, and +1LD.  You also lose the stubborn prayer and his uber buff.

He can be pretty deadly if you use his super buff at a critical time...

He's one of the 4 models we can get with a 4+ ward save. Taking him frees equipment for other models.

At first glance he seems not so good but when you factor in that WS5 in a challenge with the one-time buff its a great combat trick. And 4+ ward save is nothing to laugh at. If your gonna put points into a mounted warrior priest then Luthur Huss is the guy to take.

I've fielded him in a unit of Knights in every game I've played with the new book. He's so much better than he used to be. Totally worth the points.

Hard to value his sick uber buff, it can be a game changer in the right circumstances,

i've been asleep for hours , too much booze last night, there has been a zombie apocalypse whilst i was asleep, i peaked out the window and an old man with grey skin was limping along the road?!

Luthor has been worth it for the last two books.   My only real problem with him is not in his cost (as the free non-Magic Item Ward Save is just tops), but that you can only field him mounted!  It sucks putting calvary bases in infantry!  :eusa_wall:

But hey you use him in calvary and you're good to go.

You are not immune to killing blow if you are mounted on a horse. Only if you are a monster of some kind (monstrous inf and cavalry). Or am I totaly lost here?  ::heretic::

In the FAQ for the rulebook it is a little strangely worded but basically, if there is an option to take a character without a mount, then he is subject to killing blow no matter what he is mounted on.  I am not sure how this works with Special Characters exactly but I would be inclined to let my opponent killing blow me.

Agreed.

I'd find it a bit off-putting if my opponent argued that I could not KB his man-sized character because he was mounted on a warhorse. That just seems a bit too much like rules lawyering and disregarding the spirit of the game.

All of the Empire special characters are vulnerable to Killing Blow with the exception of Balthasar Gelt as he can only be taken on his pegasus and Karl Franz if he is mounted on a pegasus, Deathclaw or the Imperial Dragon as his base type is not Infantry. Everyone else is cavalry or infantry, and is therefore vulnerable.

ALL normal Empire characters are vulnerable to Killing Blow, regardless of what you mount them on as they are all either Infantry as their base troop type or Cavalry with no other mount option, which are all vulnerable to Killing Blow.

KF is infantry before you choose a mount for him, so according to the faq he can not gain immunity to KB by being mounted on a peg or deathclaw.  That's where I was going with the dumb KB faq.  So really, the only SC truly immune to killing blow is BG, as he can only ever be taken as MC.

'Q: does Killing blow work against a mounted character regardless of what he is mounted on?
A: Yes, as long as the character would count as an infantry model if it wasn't mounted.'

I must have missed that his base is now Infantry. In that case, yeah, Balthasar Gelt is the only Empire character that is immune to Killing Blow.

And what did common sense say in that case? Hope it said that BG was suceptible to Killing Blow isn't it?
