Greatswords should look like this...
« on: May 04, 2012, 06:17:36 AM »
Hello all.

I'm still looking for any cheap, great weapon weilding minis to use as greatswords (GW can bugger off) and stumbled across these, man this is what our greatswords should look like...

  Any thoughts?

Shield strapped to the arm, a shield strapped to each arm, massive shoulder armour, huge neck armour but no helmets..........no, I really don't like those models.

I have a feeling that buying enough of those minnies to make a greatsword unit would be far more expensive than gw's prices! :icon_wink:  The greatswords we have now are fantastic sculpts, I don't see why anyone would look for alternative models, other than theme of course.

There are so many options for Greatsword units

try 1980's foot knights

with arm swaps

Ask yourself , what is real? 5 sense filtered reality is a very limited perspective.

great sculpts! I would get 2 to 4 of those to mix in the unit, otherwise check Gamezone greatswords.

I'm plenty happy with the current GW sculpts. They give lot of room for kit bashing and are a delight to paint since they have so many non-flat surfaces.  I've myself bashed Greatswords with almost every empire box there is and some Brettonia bitz as well, they fit neatly with just a little bit knife work.

Although those don't look bad at all but would fit in a chaos army like a glove imho.
Check out my painting-log C&C is plenty appreciated!

I like the gw sculpts (the only state troop that I do like) but object to the price. I use these:

Greatswords should look like this:

I have seen no other models so far that came close to the 6th edition GW metal ones.

Like them very much but they are old models and problem with Helldorado minis is that they are little bit smaller if they are not I would have them long time ago

The hell dorado ones I don't like.
I don't care about the rules.

Pass the machete.

+1. I prefer my puff and slash Doppelsoldners to pseudo- tanked up Space Marines.

The ones Finlay posted are very nice indeed!

I disagree. I think 1460's foot knights would have a more appropriate look.

Nice minis, and not overly expensive, I would get them any time.....but I don't see a full plate here. Hell dorado ones on the other hand do wear it.... beside being very nicelly sculpted, correctly proportioned, full of details and with an aggresive attacking pose. Just give them a helmet or a fancy landsknecht hat and send them against those chosen allready.

Also this miniature line is struggling to succeed on the market, give them some support already.

Sorry, I had to. Ahem. Helldorade has some lovely stuff, but these Doppelsöldners I am no fan of.

The GW models are very good indeed, and if you don't like them, the 6th edition ones are just as good in a different way. 4th/5th weren't half bad either.
