Thx for comments!

I have painted some more models for the swordsmen unit and made some minor conversions to get that "walk throu a dark wood" feel. The torch is from the flagellants. On the other guy the head and swordarm are from the greatswords.

Some knight that has been lying around for months waiting to be highlighted and based. I finaly did it the other night!
I bent some horse legs to get the postitioning a bit more interesting. The metal is boltgun metal washed with devlan mud and badab black, then highlighted with chainmail. I´m working on five more, with the new rules lances can be used in two ranks!  :biggriin:

Great stuff, just love it. The knights and especially the swordsmen unit looks truly stunning. Have one question as well, how the heck do you get such good quality photos? What camera do you have, lights etc?

Incredible looking army.
And I love the mix of Witch Hunters with the regular Hochland troops.

Glad you like my work!

:smile2: Four things are important: 1. Use daylight. I took the photos very close to a window when the sun was shining alot. There are lamps that mimic daylight I believe, so there are probably alternatives. 2. Use a tripod or something else to steady the camera and get a good angle. 3. Use macro mode. Often a flower icon on digital cameras. 4. Take photos with time delay (push the button and the camera takes the picture after about 10 sec). Most cameras have settings for this. This prevents shaking , since you might move the camera a little when you push the button.

That´s about it I think. I use my girlfirends camera (she thought me all this by the way :) ). It´s a Canon PowerShot G2. Quite old but still kicking.

Good luck!  :smile2:

The shading on your Green is so impressive.

What a treat for anyone who gets to play vs this army.

Your feedback is worth alot, thanks  :smile2:

Recently I have got hooked on the idea of mercenaries/pirates sailing on the Empire rivers looking for gold and riches throu piracy and by hiering out their services. There are some "pirate" swordsmen further up this blog. Right now I´m working on more troops for this unit as well as a cannon with crew. Here is a work in progres picture:

I plan to paint an anchor on the banner and some text. It will probably be "STROMFELS" who I found uot is the god of stroms, pirates etc.

Absolutely stunning painting. Your skill shows in each model. The warrior priest with the two-handed hammer is especially well done! Thank you for sharing this.

(I mean, I feel unworthy to hold a brush now, but still...love to see such great work)

This is one of thosa models I have tried to spend a little more time on. Alot of shading and highlighting involved here. I'm pleased with the result even thou the red cape cold have had a little more contrast.

Work in progress on the standard bearer of my hardy marienburg pirates  :icon_mad:

I'm no expert att warhammer lore, but Stomfels is supposed to be the lord of storms etc.. I like the sound of it, the name also has a good amonut of characters to fit on the banner. Have not decided if I shall shade and highligt the anchor etc.. I kind of like the graphic style it has to it right now. Sugestions?

The body is from the huntsmen kit, so is the sword arm (I love that kit!). The head comes from the militia box and the banner arm+banner is from the handgunner/crossbow kit.

That is some really clean painting there. Not a single line out of place.

It looks like you use the washes a lot, is that right?

Thanks for sharing, and please keep posting.

People can say what they want, I am more impressed by an army painted to this standard than a single GD winner.

Lovely use of washes!  :::cheers:::

I used a pencil on the yellow undercoat to get good lines before I started with the colours. The most tricky part was to the angles and such right, since the banner is not flat.

When painting rank and file units I go about like this almost always: 1. Paint all the base colours 2. Wash all of it with devlan mud (devlan mud is an amazing wash!) 3. Highlight everything once except for skin areas which I go over twice. Since our human eyes are drawn to faces, they are very important for the over all appearance.

Thanks for all kind words!

Done with some new pirates. Not that good photo (not much sunlight here right now).

The head on the peg legged guy is from the marauder horsemen box. The drum with arms come from the old swordsmen box.

Pirate cannon with crew. I pirate ship without cannons is a lame pirate ship.

Again, alot of different kits used. I tried to dirty the yellow even more than on the swordsmen, especially on the guy feeding the cannon with cannonballs.

also tried out some wood grain effect on the cannon. The result is ok I think, took some time.

How did you do the wood grain effect?

How did you do the wood grain effect?

The base is scorched brown washed with badab black. The wood grain is bestial brown painted on with a paint brush.
